Search Engines Anonymous 08/19/2017 (Sat) 15:56:08 [Preview] No. 10837
The majority of them are garbage.

Has anyone discovered or created a search engine that allows the user to set parameters to exclude certain websites? The massive majority of search engines have little features and space for user input (Searx is probably the closest to what is ideal).

General search engine/ideas thread.

There is no question about it. It's pretty well known here.
Seriously, I don't know what you're doing here if you don't even know what search engine to use.
Host your own instance of Searx is the best.
Use startpage temporary.
Look for yacy.

Not much to add... Go on 8ch.

I already use Searx (Not my own instance, but searx.me), but you cannot filter out certain websites (Which means that results are bloated with crap normies click on).

It's a basic feature for all of them.

"Supports" open source programs but isn't open source

Even if they said their software was open source, it would be irrelevant. There would be no way to tell whether or not that's what they were actually running unless its behaviour deviated in a noticeable way from the code they claimed to be running. Then you'd only know that they weren't. You can never be sure they are.

Try YaCy, is a self hosted search engine and has advanced features.

I wish Amazon would make their own search engine and compete with Google. They could do it, just look at Amazon Echo. They probably don't because if they infringe on Google's monopoly Google will retaliate hard and hurt Amazon's profits.
