Many thanks to Hungry poster on /kc for this.

>In the spirit of the previous vidya thread here's the open source remake of an old Hungarian sci-fi RTS: Open Imperium Galactica. [Embed]

Open Imperium Galactica (Open-IG) is an open source JavaTM reimplementation of the Digital Reality game Imperium Galactica, a popular, 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate) real-time space strategy game developed around 1996 in Hungary.

The project contains all necessary files (with the permission from the copyright owner Digital Reality) to run the game standalone, there is no need for the original Imperium Galactica files.

Endchan crash

Wow, so the endchan died taking all the images with it. Thankfully I keep back-ups so all the banners and the css are back.

ChaosEsque Anthology

ChaosEsque Anthology is a first person shooter. It is a standalone modification of Xonotic which includes extended weapons, maps, vehicles, buildable buildings, mounted weapons, spell casting, monsters, player characters, textures, and game modes.

It has over 100 maps. Some are futuristic, some are ancient, and some are medieval. A few evoke platform games such as sonic, others follow a style more akin to diablo. Some are static maps, others are randomly connected.

There is something to fit your mood. There are mutators that can add mounted weapons in any map, buildings, monsters, foliage, hazards, and even balloons and bumpers. You can fight with futuristic weapons, medieval weapons, and /or hand to hand combat (over 100 weapons). There are also many vehicles (and a mutator to spawn them in maps that do not have them, as is tradition (as you can see)).

You can also set each team to start with different specific weapons if you want to test a theory that you could defeat a well equipped military force with your bolt action rifle or crossbow. Same with vehicles and mounted weapons spawning (you can set which spawn near which team in CTF etc). You can drink wine, potions, learn magic, read scrolls, so on and so forth.

The goal, and much of this has been reached, is to not limit the player.

System Shock, kind of, goes GPL

This seems kind of back handed to me, like we should be grateful for anything at all. This is a GPL release of the PPC version, I'm guessing a fuck ton of ASM in there. To even port it to a new architecture is going to be a big project, then to port it to a different operating system or even implement SDL. It will be a LONG time before I'm playing this, if ever, but still at least there's a chance.

Godot 3.0 is here

3.0 has been 18 months in the making and is a huge release. Listing all its features is virtually impossible, but we'll try to give an extensive overview of what changed since Godot 2.1.

Minetest mod

So, I decided I would like to make a minetest mod and host a cyberpunk minetest game. Truth be told I already took a stab at this but made lots of mistakes and it was such an ugly mess I scrapped the whole thing. I think to do this right I need to take a more serious approach. I have a clear idea of what the mod should be in my head but it's a lot of work. I hope to add advertising in at some point (not paid lol), leading people to here and other endchan boards, that's if it comes to anything at all. The mod will be called "Little_Chiba" and follow closely to a shadowrun theme. If development begins now it could be ready for the 0.5 minetest release next year, maybe, probably not. Here are some notes I have:

wood crafts to shiv
harmless mobs carry nuyen
nuyen buy from merchants
merchants sell ammo, boxes, guns, tools and vanity items in that price order
tools can be used to open locked doors and locked boxes

map is fixed size city scape
tree leaves are cyan/blue and glow like torch instead of street lamps

future development:
endchan billboards
credsticks to store nuyen, locked and unlocked with hacking tool to unlock
upgradable door and box software (crafting) requiring upgraded tools to unlock
cyberdecks instead of tools with upgradable software to unlock upgraded boxes and doors
clubs with music loop (hong kong express - dreaming?)
corp building with high security doors and violent mobs in centre of map, top level software, gun with unlimited ammo and vanity skin in final room
ambiant city sound (bladerunner loop?)
increasable (upgradable) cyberdeck storage for warez

Last Outpost: Star Trek Voyager Elite Force Holomatch

1.1 Download:!NSgjRQQS!ca0L4yw4nW3T8xox4Y3pkTQgCtabDuM1o781-Yg_J38

To change resolution, edit ~/.stvef/baseEF/hmconfig.cfg "r_customheight" and "r_customwidth"

If you never played Holomatch, you missed out and should probably get playing right now. It's Star Trek Q3 Arena and it's good.

Some little annoyances:
For those who wish to get this thing running by themselves you are going to have to jump a few hoops. First is the initial release, which is "windows only" which I found very strange because I know this mod and it most certainly isn't. That said you need to downlaod the installer and install it under windows to extract it, it's not an inno or cab/zip, then apply the 1.1 patch.,9647.0.html,9656.0.html

Then comes the really annoying part. The initial mod is called IOEF by Thilo. The IOEF is written as a diff patch against an old version if ioquake3. Now we get to the Last Outpost and their version. If you read the commits, they patched the old version of ioquake3 with the IOEF diff then merged the latest ioquake3 version on top of that, which has left things fucking broken with nothing done to fix it since 2016. Needless to say, it doesn't compile post merge. Also, helpful hint, if you want to compile you will need to adjust the make file. If anyone gets this thing working, please let me know. I also notice from their release post two things:
>No official support for Linux or OS X operating systems.
>The original mod author has been contacted for consultation.
Well thankfully, the original author still offer source and even binaries.

And so the download provided is the extracted game data with the x86_64 binary. No CD-Key required as long as you play the Last Outpost servers:
The Last Outpost's Holomatch Server
Earth's Elite Frag Server
UFP Elite Force Server
[Dark] Naes Server
#NoCheat Elimination
#NoCheat Random Map
#NoCheat Pinball
#NoCheat Gladiator

I also highly recommend checking out the RPG-X game, if you like star trek. if you don't, kill yourself

The problem with Doom3

Doom3 is such a fucking terrible mess, it hurts. For a start there are three projects to choose from:
ioDoom3 -
Literally fucking nothing, a complete false start with zero work done, not even 64bit port, pathetic.

dhewm3 -
Updated but completely breaks compatibility with the SDK and thus existing soft mods. In particular the mods that made the game look half way decent like sikkmod and dentons's enhanced doom. What's more a complete lack of interest in implementing comparable advanced graphics features of their own.

RBDoom3BFG -
A fork of the updated Doom3 release. All the added engine features are a pile of fucking crap that just make the game brighter. It also cannot be played online without Steam, yuck. Robert has added new shadow rendering which is cool. However they also completely couldn't give a fuck about maintaining compatibility with mods, they fuck with settings without a care for compatibility.

What really fucking kills me is that users are better off with an original version of the game with soft mods like sikkmod and a texture pack. It's like all this work has just been to make doom3 worse.

It's not fucking rocket science. All you need is a port with:
Backwards SDK compatibility

Quadrilateral cowboy

Anyone tried to compile this fucking game? I think the code released doesn't include the linux and mac ports which are being sold. That's a GPL violation if true, right?

Yorg is FLOSS: the code of the game is released under GPLv3. Ya2’s art assets are released under CC BY-SA.

third person visual perspective;
8 different pilots;
7 different cars;
4 different tracks;

Not seen this one before, maybe very early in development. Nice to see real progress on projects like these.

scrape dump

I am dumping some games links I found here until I check through each one before posting them in the sticky. Feel free to help or point out any with bad licensing. I will likely only add those with stable gameplay, not alpha stuff, but enjoy the selection anyway.

Postal went GPL

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, how did this happen and I didn't hear of it!!!

>It was in September, 1997 – over 19 years ago (we’ll round that out to 20, for marketing reasons) – when us humble folk from Running With Scissors unleashed our Robotron-inspired isometric shooter POSTAL to the unsuspecting public at large. It was an instant hit, grabbing the attention of gamers, parents and politicians across the country, and we’ve been supporting and updating it ever since. But now, (almost) 20 years later, we are entrusting our fans with the future of our game, by releasing its source code to the public. Consider it a belated Christmas present!

Only a matter of time until it's ported.

I've been working on a while on this project for a metroidvania.
I am focusing on the technology itself to allow for people to easily create metroidvanias and content for games designed for the engine and less on the game itself.

I think I got it on a state that its worth posting on agdg places.

You can find the code and stuff over

What ever happened to Serious Sam?

Well, it seems Ryan hasn't done anything with it for ~8 months. And no one else is far ahead in commits, so it's not been picked up by anyone else.

What's worse I believe croteam were holding off for ryan to finish his commits to merge before making updates. What a fucking let down, it won't even compile.

Anyone else feel like a complete retard playing Arx?

There were three points in the game when I felt utterly beaten and had to resort to a walk through.

The first locks the second - temple
Finding the rebel hideout
Final Akbaa's rock

Is Arx a game for smart gamers? Because personally, playing the game felt the dev was saying "like my game? fuck you, dumbass, I'm too smart to be wasting my time making a game for the likes of you."

Destination Sol

Just started playing this and thought I would share:

You start at the edge of a solar system as a pilot in a small ship. You are free to explore space, land on planets, fight with enemies, upgrade your ship and equipment, hire mercenaries, mine asteroids, and so on.

Are 3D games truly libre?

It's well known that 3D support on free software distros is less than ideal. And in computers certified by the FSF as using only free software, 3D graphics card acceleration is often nonexistent. And let's not even start with free hardware! The point is, do you consider that libre games that only work with 3D acceleration hinder the adoption of fully free distros?

Space Lynx

Hey, I just released the first playable build for Space Lynx.
Its a minecraft-like game on space based on corneroids.
You can place and destroy blocks and move around.

There is also a lua terminal, but there is no integration with the game yet, so it won't do nothing but run your commands on the lua runtime environment.

The compound bodies have a dynamic center of mass. That is a core feature that made me make this build.

Next step is networking, which will be another huge milestone and will be followed up by the next build.

There is just one thing I forgot to write on the controls, its Q and E to roll.

Hexoshi - metroid clone

This is a little piece of good news. I have been checking a new in-dev game called Hexoshi now and then. It is now fully funded and on savannah. Should start seeing progress soon. Just thought I would share.

Lugaru HD - gratis

Lugaru just relicensed their assets, they are now free to download!
This does bode well for the sequel and its' eventual license too, I think.

Anyway, if you don't have it already, you have no excuse now.

8ch/lv new board owner

The old lv board on pigchan has a new board owner.
The only change made I can see thus far is to remove the link to endchan in the sticky. A shame, but good luck to the new BO. I am interested in what he may bring to the board.

Tiberian Sun

If you haven't tried the OpenRA TS mod yet, you really should. It's in the main dev atm and damn it's stable.
git clone
cd OpenRA
make dependencies

On trisquel I installed mono-complete to make it.

Gaming without X

Some games can output video to the framebuffer, allowing you to launch and play them from the tty, without any display server running. This usually requires some tinkering to get to work because /dev/input devices are set to 660 root:input, so you can't access them directly without being in the input group. You shouldn't add yourself to the input group though, that's a bad idea. What I do is this:
$ sudo chown :input /usr/bin/game
$ sudo chmod g+s /usr/bin/game
Now the game executable will be launched as if you were in the input group even though you're not. If the game is libre, then giving it unrestricted access to your input shouldn't be an issue.
Games I know to work like this are:
>widelands (requires SDL_VIDEODRIVER=fbcon)
>retroarch (I know the games themselves aren't libre, but the emulator is and that's what counts)

Feel free to add to the list if you know of any more.

The yearning

This was in a recent freegamer article:

My only point of contention is the Linux instructions...
>The Wwise authoring tool doesn't run on Linux. Use Wwise on another platform to build the Linux soundbanks.
Going to try and run this in wine to get it compiled. Kind of annoying though, very vague instruction.

Valyria Tear

Valyria Tear is a JRPG. It's well rounded game and its' clear lots of development work went into it. It kind of reminds of an old FF game and I recommend it, if you are into that sort of things. Graphics and movement are a little basic, but at the very least it's an enjoyable waste of time.

Space Station 13 without BYOND

Hey, /lv/-fag, have you ever wanted to play Space Station 13?
I wanted to, but it runs on proprietary (and laggy, according to players) BYOND game engine.

What you think about this project?

R: 9 / I: 0 / P: 4

As you can see it has some interesting mechanic which they call "Molecular Voxel Interaction Engine". As seen in the trailer above, it basically allows you to automate crafting, resulting in interesting "programmable" factory setups.
Of course this might sound a bit too much like actual work and not fun... but given the big fan scene for the closed source game Factorio, I would say it can be more fun that it looks at first ;)

Blackvoxel itself probably needs to be a bit more of a game instead of "just" a sandbox, but there is big promise in the overall concept, so give it a try :)

R: 3 / I: 0 / P: 4

Hey guys, I want a libre game as my wallpaper. Probably a screenshot, mostly blue. Maybe some faggot pixel art.

What would be the best game for that?

R: 0 / I: 0 / P: 4

Hey guys, just thinking out loud.

How much effort would it be to manage a repo? I would likely be creating all the packages myself.

So I never found a decent libre benching program, until now. It's GL based, so maybe no vulkan benching in future but hey it beats glxgears.

MAME is now Free and Open Source Software

After 19 years, MAME is now available under an OSI-compliant and FSF-approved license! Many thanks to all of the contributors who helped this to go as smoothly as possible!

We have spent the last 10 months trying to contact all people that contributed to MAME as developers and external contributors and get information about desired license. We had limited choice to 3 that people already had dual-license MAME code with.

As a result, a great majority of files (over 90% including core files) are available under the 3-Clause BSD License but project as a whole is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 2 or later (GPL-2.0+), since it contains code made available under multiple GPL-compatible licenses.

If you have contributed to the MAME source code and believe we have not contacted you, please reach out to us at our contact page.

Please note that MAME is a registered trademark of Nicola Salmoria, and permission is required to use the "MAME" name, logo or wordmark.

Hey guys, I chose endchan first for its' board creation and because it's not based on infinity. Although I am dubious about mongodb, let's see where this goes.

I am fucking with settings and the CSS right now. If something is fucked for some reason, I probably already know about it but please feel free to drop a reply ITT.
