Board rules Anonymous 01/06/2016 (Wed) 01:52:10 [Preview] No. 4 [Reply]
The only rules currently in force are the site wide global rules. These can be found here:
https://endchan.xyz/.static/globalRules.html

The maximum characters per post appears to be about 2,035. Long posts will be truncated and posted by the system without warning. Bit of a nasty surprise that. We are looking into increasing the count.

In addition to the usual assortment of image-board attachments, PDFs and ZIPed files are supported.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquarium_%28Suvorov%29

>The account starts in 1969, when Suvorov, as an ordinary tank company commander, is recruited into intelligence analysis by an up-and-coming Lieutenant Colonel. From there he transfers to Spetsnaz and, from there, into the GRU proper. A combination of circumstances lead to his eventual defection to the British.

It was interesting and entertaining, and also a quick read. Pretty much biographical but with lots of insight or anecdotes into Soviet military/intelligence life. I need to start on one of his other books.

There have been a few recent news stories that I read and made me think of this book (I read Aquarium about four months ago).

The head of the GRU recently died, some have implied there might be more the story. Anything involving the GRU is probably not as it seems

For some reason there was a story recently lamenting the loss of a TOW missile to Cuba, "accidentally" sent there. Although Aquarium is from 1985 it talks about recovering an earlier version of the TOW missile from a farmer, the west is extremely lax with military technology. Suvarov wonders why but you can read between the lines and figure out that the west intentionally leaks tech to spur the expensive development of the next generation.

Your synopsis brings to mind the fictional story The Human Factor by Graham Greene, and the real life story of Kim Philby.

I think I will give this a look.

>I don't think I can upload epub here though.

A quick test returns:
>A file had a format that is not allowed by the server.

What you can do is zip up the file and upload that.

No, but written by a comic book writer. It's a decent little pulp story. While his prose isn't fantastic the story is carried on the tonal consistency and strength of its premise (1965 robots have certain limitations that make being a detective difficult).

while technically the last thing i read was the republic, im not going to count it because it was an audiobook. instead im going to say the enchiridion, as it was the last thing i actually read. read it on here http://classics.mit.edu/Browse/index-Epictetus.html, and it got me interested enough in stoicism that i went and bought pic related. i must say im really enjoying so far because for one it has annotations on just about every page that give the reader historical context or the meaning of certain phrases, along with an explanation on who this or that person is whenever they are initially brought up, which is quite helpful if you havent looked at the roman empire through a magnifying glass. it also has a brief forward by the translator explaining his intent for this translation, which i found quite nice compared to just being thrown into the mish mash version of it on MIT's site.

Metro 2033. Does the whole "Tell everyone you meet your life story and your views on life, death and the afterlife" really happen in Russia?

Reminder infinity next is going to be a term that is synonymous with terminal brain cancer if uttered in the same sentence as imageboard hardware
