Common person like me would never write in that thread even if he has something to say. I'm not a staff so it's forbidden.

Irkutsk region flag. Here is the story: before 19th century the tiger was a symbol of Irkutsk region and was represented on coat of arms. It was called "babr" - Siberian dialect word that mean tiger. Coat of arms contained "babr who holds sable (marten) in the mouth".

But there is another word in common Russian, "bobr" - a beaver. So, at some point heraldists in capital didn't understand that word and replaced babr with bobr. Painters tried to fulfill the request by adding big beaver-like tail and beaver feet to tiger.

Error of course was noticed, but modern version of region logo still features that "babr", now for historical purposes.

>at some point heraldists in capital didn't understand that word and replaced babr with bobr.
So a downgrade from a might tiger to a mere beaver imposed by outsiders. But on the other hand, tigers are somewhat common in heraldry while a beaver is a bold and unusual choice.

Persian spelling of Mujahideen.
Also a good flag right here.
Literally has the text "Idaho" and a seal that says "Great Seal of the State of Idaho", has a woman and man in a farm, a deer, a shield that contains horses around a river, and has the text "Esto perpetua" in Latin, a dead language.

By the way, modern Russian flag actually changed two times. From 91 to 93 colors and aspect ratio were slightly different.

Flag was changed when new constitution was written (and after shooting at parliament with tanks).

They're literally Islamig Gommunists. According to CRW Flags,
>Out of a vice comes an erect naked arm ending in a fist. In the fist are crossed sickle and gun with bajonette. Above the cross is a 5-point star. The whole is placed into a circle representing the globe. On its right side is a wreath of laurel(?). In the background is the silhouette of the Iran. Beneath the vice, at the top of the circle and beneath the circle there are inscriptions.

Gommies' favourite are the workers it's easy to work them. They are rootless urbanite pleb unlike peasants who are too close to the land and prefer concrete borders, or unlike herders who are too tribalists and both group are too religious as they are close to nature and her whims and both group has ownership as well. So gommies try to turn everyone into workers and call the others class enemies.

I see I'll practice some Cyrillic today.

>Is there any political context behind the flag change or was it merely an aesthetic choice?

Culture committee said that old colors, white-azure-scarlet (they were written like this) weren't used in Russian history, so white-blue-red is better. Aspect ratio is aesthetic I guess. No one (at least officially) linked flag change with that parliament happenings, it was just a good chance to replace flag in large array of laws when new constitution was signed. Although even in new flag there is no precise specification for colors, only white, blue and red are specified.

Overall, this flag has long history, but it wasn't pure old Russian flag. It was used for civilian and trade purposes in Russian Empire until 1896. Before monarchy often used black-yellow-white, other flags used too. White-blue-red was also used Russian Liberation Army (nazis).

The Californian flag itself is probably the most outdated flag in the world.
>California grizzly bear to symbolise strength, ironic since it's now extinct
>The text "California Republic", yet it's a state of the USA
>has that text AND a star which represents that it's an American state
The bear is also too detailed for a flag, which is rather, supposed to be simplistic. Just overall terrible.

Don't want to be autistic, but I'll be: some flags, especially on wiki, aren't real flags but drawings from text description of flag. Some drawings are truly amateur, so they look weird and funny.
