It was called VAZ-2101 here. A legendary car, some of them are alive today, especially first ones that were made on Italian equipment (later it became more Russian and these cars had serious quality loss). USSR had another classic cars (GAZ/Pobeda, Moskvich), but this thing was truly a people's car - car that started mass automobilization. Unofficially it is called "kopeika" (копейка, kopeck, analogue of one cent).
My father had one, and it couldn't start in harsh winter when my mother needed to go into hospital because of my birth, so they called ambulance.
First photo is actually VAZ-21011 - more modern modification. It could be easily distinguished by bumpers (without "tusks") and additional holes at the bottom of radiator grill.
