From what I've seen of China, which is just news articles and various videos either news or vloggers from western countries living there abroad, while obviously there are huge cultural differences China and America really seem more alike than either would probably care to admit.

Having spent time in southern China, I must admit the Chinese have a lovely culture and being almost completely Chinese they don't feel invaded or resentful toward foreigners. I personally wouldn't race mix with one but I can see why China has an appeal to many westerners. The average chinaman is also surprisingly clued up on current affairs and politics, more so than my experience of westerners.

I'm going to China later this year. What should I expect? I'm white, tall and good in English, don't know much Chinese. Don't like spicy food or eating something weird like eyeballs or live squids, intestines are ok.

Expect many Chinese.
>Don't like spicy food
Don't come to Hungary then.
I think China has wide variety of dishes so you can avoid what disgusts you. Maybe the Taiwanese Bernd can help you out in this.

How can one live in China? Is it difficult to get residency statusm is it expensive etc.?

As a European?
If one has a trade or know languages I think one could find a cozy job.
Except I read somewhere that Chinese are the biggest slimebags when it comes to business and really hard to deal with them.

I'm aware of the latter :3

I was mostly interested in the formal/legal aspects, like renting a flat, being allowed to stay in the country for longer time etc.
