How so? I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if someone's managed to cram their modern socio-political narrative into a dystopian futureworld based on a franchise from the early fucking 90s, mind.

What pisses me off the most is how it seems to get the most basic clickRPG mechanics wrong, especially with the skills. The graphics also feel pretty dated, and playing it after having played Grim Dawn makes everything feel kinda off considering Grim Dawn improved on most of Titan Quest's faults.

Still, I would say it's a decent game, just feels dated overall.

Also thread i.d's on 8/v/ somewhat worked since it was for anti-samefagging. It's what astro-turfers and marketers, in addition to trolls, use to make a position more popular than it actually is. At this point, it's clear that there have been shills before, just like the Anita backers that constantly posted threads about her on /v/ to stir up attention to her Kickstarter, not actually because of some autist who couldn't ignore her.

Just tried to play Castle Story, I must say it's a cool game. It's honestly everything I would expect from a casualized version of a 3d Dwarf Fortress, but Jesus Christ is it poorly optimized right now. Granted my machine is old now (pic related) and I'm using a monitor that's 1600*900, but surely this thing should be able to run it at the highest settings, right?

Hell just exiting the sandbox map I was dicking around in for a while caused the game to crash on me by the way. Good thing I didn't actually buy it, paying to be a video game guinea pig stopped sounding cool after minecraft to be honest.

Can you actually play it now? They do work on it still, fairly regular updates over the last several years.

Preformance
It's playable on medium maps with 30-60fps, once you reach 100 enemies and 30~ friendlies it starts chugging on my rig. Big maps however if you have an AMD and it's like mine, not top spec, expect a crash every 5 minutes, the FPS oddly enough is stable, but it crashes, every fucking time. Every time I check the error logs I notice that it's caused by memory leaks in Unity engine 5. Every damn time I check on why it's because it's not using all of my RAM even though I have 8gigs worth of it.

Needless to say it's just as I said in the OP, it needs severe optimization.

GAME MECHANICS

Resource collecting
Barrels filled with crystals, or filling the big ass crystals with crystals speed up the Brickton creation process. There's now orange dust, and iron, which can be used to create explosives, and is now needed for doors and catapults. I don't know if this was in the old versions you played or not, but in the new conquest mode the more crystals you capture, the faster you can produce bricktons.

Troop and unit customization
There is none, probably never will be, and that's okay with me.

Micromanagement and path finding
New movement settings allow you to tell your warriors to attack anything they encounter along the way, after they're done attacking they proceed to the way point. That said setting up defensive positions within a broad area without archers is still a pain. You still can't customize patrol routes which means your men can end up being sneak attacked. Path finding for civillian units is for the most part significantly much better however, every once in a while bricktons choose longer routes, but for the most part it's efficient. The bricktons only get stuck when building complicated structures or when a platform has heavy traffic.

Forgot to mention, they nerfed mining and made it babby tier to use because of two reasons: Firstly, people building huge as fuck holes to prevent enemy hordes from getting into their castles. Secondly, multiplayer vs mode would be absolutely unbalanced.

Mind ellaborating. I'm a little new to this vidya I must admit. Honestly I barely started playing it late 2015 when a friend told me it stopped being buggy as shit.

Much to my dismay it's still bug laden, but probably nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

>It fractures communities via stream culture cliques much like IRC. It also promotes advertising, and advertising is cancer for image board cultures.
This pretty much, but though I don't think every scenario of advertising is terrible. On cripplechan, some anons and amateur game devs are honestly promoting their own games. I'd like to add that streaming is focused on the streamer's personality and that e-celebrity threads, to whatever level of actual popularity, haven't been constructive to imageboards generally.

Anonymous 08/12/2016 (Fri) 03:06:25 [Preview] No. 9731 del
Have you, OP, considered that you might be blinded by cancer? You know where self-promotion ends? It does not matter if you hype your own shit or shit you like. You know why it is considered to be a case mindpoisoning to focus on things by their popularity or individual affection, rather than their relativity or merit?

If the material is good, the audience will find it. If you're trying to pull a group pressure youtube scheme for kids: Fucking stop, and do something non-cancerous.

Dragon's Crown Anonymous 07/06/2016 (Wed) 00:54:00 [Preview] No. 9493 [Reply]
I'd like to know the general consensus on Dragon's Crown. I think I remember seeing a drawing of le trashman throwing a copy of it in the bin.

Sure, people only give a shit about it because it's got ass and titties in it and it's simplistic to the point of becoming repetitive quickly but there's at least a solid 50 hours worth there believe me.

I feel you on the confected outrage it generated - getting mad because tits is equally as sad as giving the game a pass because tits.

But there's something I vehemently dislike about the game: it was encapsulated by your response, and it's present across the entire industry. That something is the Skinner box effect that has been added to virtually every single game since every single developer found they can exponentially increase the life of their title by bolting on simplistic progression trees, or "old-skool RPG elements as they're occasionally, nauseatingly, referred to.

Nobody's content to make a straight up action game that will take 30 minutes to complete anymore - even when they're designing in a genre like scrolling beat-'em-ups that fucking well should.

Why?

Because by artificially extending the sense of progress within the game, you can guarantee that the consumer is not going to get tired of your product. The more cynical publishers use this to tide customers along til the next DLC fix and the cycle will start again.

Fundamentally, gentlemen, our favorite past-time has simply been flooded with time inflation.

>>9514
Oh I agree with you. There's no goddamn reason why a game like Dragon's Crown should have shit like level-based character progression other than to pad out the time. Variety between same characters types could have been done equipment-wise combined maybe with some base stat randomization.

Perhaps in a better society we shall start rewarding games that deliver a satisfying experience in the least time possible. But that's assuming we will have or want something better to do with our time.

You can blame the casual as fuck Everquest Clone people like to call "World of Warcraft", or how I like to call it the most cancerous Massively Multiplayer Online Amusement Park Simulator to ever exist..

Anonymous 08/12/2016 (Fri) 02:25:56 [Preview] No. 9730 del
It's an absolutely marvelous little game. Excellent casual couch co-op or HC single player challenge. Near perfect mechanics, though massive spell ownage clutters the screen.Online component works and can be fun. Good variety characters for only semi-different play styles.

You get to cook and eat your enemies. In Top-tier Vanillaware food fetish minigame you can make a radish onion hotpot of the last bosses meat, for the whole party to eat. Art is some of Vanillawares best, only topped by MDB.

You can play the Dwarf. Not just any dwarf, The Dwarf. Just try it.

Some boring grinding in the late game, but it's part of the "how long can you travel"-mechanic. All gear is unfortunately abysmally boring. Great game.

Game mechanics or a combination which would be pretty hard to make a game for Anonymous 06/22/2016 (Wed) 23:06:35 [Preview] No. 9365 [Reply]
I think an RPG of any kind with permaMob death would be hard to design. You'd either end up with a game that can only be played one way if you're not careful, or an easy as shit game to circumvent that.

its good if you like the idea of a diablo clone where you can control multiple people simultaneously. its somewhere in between diablo and those instances in warcraft games, but unique from either in that you can prioritize how each individual unit attacks, and formations are actually useful.

the only bad thing about it is that the inventory screen is made of fixed pixels, and with increasing screen resolution, its getting harder and harder to see, but its not bad at 1080p.

heres a good review of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgsR3qZp3-M

>or a combination
My long time fantasy is a fighter that's slow as shit because it's actually a worms clone about tiny parasites that micromanage the various limbs of the character. Some ballistics could be involved but with the addition of shooting 'the ground' to give orders and buffs, and most of the focus would be on efficiency management and fighter meta strategy in slo-mo for the sake of being babby friendly. Turn-based, but with a mechanic of using items to extend your action limit on the most opportune turn when you need to get shit done the most urgently. After a win there would be a real-time playback fight of maybe thirty seconds after an hour of play.

Spin-off series would just be that same fighter game but actually a proper fighter.

Ok, so, just make believable possession simulation. Like there is an actual demon trying to get a hold of your body. It whispers bad shit during dialogs, sometimes takes control and makes the player do or say bad things.
And as the story progresses, the demon gains more control, and player gets to know who the demon is. So a love story maybe.

What genres would you love to see revived/expanded?

Personally, there are never enough learning simulators. I don't mean programs that simulate learning, but simulators where you have to sit down and study the fucking manual. DCS is one example, Rouge System the other.
