Acrobat Reader Alternative Anonymous 04/25/2017 (Tue) 08:35:05 [Preview] No. 8388
Are there any alternatives for browsing pdfs in browser that don't require Adobe Acrobat? The main problem is having to allow it each time in Firefox because it's apparently not secure.

Doesn't firefox have it's own pdfjs ?
Other than that I use mupdf and firejail for sandboxing it but then again I don't view pdf's in qutebrowser.(which I also think has pdfjs)

I think FF did have it's own at some point, in fact I'm almost sure of it. I think they had some security scare moment with it though and scrapped it. I just need to bring up and print these automated things at work for retards but now that it's getting to be 5-6+ pdfs a shift allowing Reader to run each individual time is a massive pain the ass and downloading them just to open print and delete each one seems just as if not more so tedious.

Did you try downloading it from github ? It appears it's still under development.
https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/
(for a premade .xpi you can click on the development version)

You should be viewing PDFs in a separate application anyway.

I think it was just removed because nobody maintained it.

I normally post on pol or horror, but, this thread calls out to anyone with eyes to see.

Adobe Systems, operates in a RICO de facto criminal status at this time, by any decent law abiding and TECH-AWARE judge, --if such a creature can ever be said to exist.

What they have done, to the words of simple ASCII notepad days, is in one word, atrocious, and in two words, outright treason. OP, what you ask for may be delivered but they will then operate against it like vipers. Why do you think they need so many versions? Indeed, were I in charge, I'd hunt down their last dozen boards and operating humans and I would force these to perform 24/7 filibustered gitmo style televised testimony. Not only would it make great TV, it'd give President Trump something useful to do in terms of cleaning the swamp in the tech field.

So to summarize, Adobe Systems, completely makes a product that has more holes than swiss cheese on a shooting range, and then continues to allow themselves to exist and spew product called PDF at us all, even after their total disaster called "The Aurora Hacks".

They can only surf on the brilliance of Photochop for so long, eventually that wave reaches the beach and all their other waves must also do so.

it's a refugee from godlike productions (literally, I remember his posts there) who's been here for a few months now

You guise are so adorable. I am not a refugee, goidlike was my surfboard for some years, but what's funny is that you are experts at discussing people but not the content of the post.

It is a known fact that Adobe makes PDF vulnerable and controls the tech. Also, I am quoted in Sci Am magazine around 2003 saying that cloud computing is a shitty idea. So, if you care to label me, label me techgod prime. Otherwise, discuss what I just told you, that Adobe is traitorous crap who needs to be called on the carpet for the multitude of times they have done headfakes and jukes to the entire community of people who use words.

Let me reddit space this for ya: If you groms don't know history you aren't worth shit to the future.

I am a career IT worker who has seen every fuckin version of this PDF reader shit since the git go. OP asks bold question: When the bullshit stop from this corporation? Don't run to your cube and avoid the question, answer it. This is a boardmeeting and I am on the conference call. Don't run, speak clearly into the mic.

I don't recommend to use it in a browser.
PDFs are now a great vector of malware and other shit.

Just use a minimalist reader like muhPDF

You could technically open it in photoshop. Pdfs take forever to open no matter what you use.

mupdf takes about 0.25s to open a ~4000 page pdf.

It's for work and they come in from corporate, so for better or worse I'm not too concerned about potential security issues with them. I couldn't tell you the last time I used a pdf for anything on my personal BEAST!
