Nokia's holding company HMD Global is aiming to grow in the chinese market, and the new 3310 probably is no worse than that average. It probably exists because HMD realizes dumbphones still have pull in china, and unlike their smartphones that are china-exclusive they think nu 3310 is a low risk even in the western competition so they're wetting their feet as the only western dumbphone manufacturer to corner the market here.

That being said, they miss the basics of rusing hipsters and made new 3310 look like hot garbage and un-retro, so they might be just half-assing it altogether. Also to note, it's not reflective of 3310, that's false advertising, it's more closer to nokia's 2008~ models that are decent but not part of the nokia meme thing or the reason old nokia phones still sell in china: because poor people don't want to pay for making their lives more complicated. Those later phones are still pretty reliable and didn't break from bending inside your pocket, but not the tanks of a phone that you could substitute for a hammer in a tight spot like the original 3310.

But realistically, if you keep good eye on your real hammers, one of those 2008-tier phones might just be little bit better for you as an mp3 player and shit. Real 3310 is pretty fucking dinky. Probably why nu 3310 is how it is, but it's pretty lame how they did nothing else to bring it into this century as an accessory to your other tech despite it itself being simple.
