Any alternative? We did some research here in the past (see >>10507 ), but we could only find Ricochet (weak cyphers), Briar (still in beta and don't seem have desktop support yet, just mobile) and Jitsi (weak for instant messaging, but uses ZRTP for video). Other clients have good security but bad sides, such as Signal (require phone number) and others.
The more "advanced" solutions (irssi + OMEMO or OTR) is too complicated for normies to set up, so it's not actually usable outside of our imageboard leet culture.
I still think that Briar is good, but laks some vulnerability mitigation that Signal Protocol employ today. A version of Signal that reduces to the maximum the metadata and has a command optional command line interface would be the ideal, but this solution doesn't seem to be done as of today.
