They tend to have smoother/cleaner looking images projected onto the screen due to the fact that they use an electron gun to illuminate a phosphorous coating towards the front of the tube instead of electronic pixels which can be clearly distinguished if one places their face closely to the screen. Of course, cathode ray tubes would not be ideal in other applications due to their high rate of energy consumption and radiation output.

I personally like them, you can fix it yourself with some electronic engineering knowledge and the proper tools, and they are interesting to use.
