8chan admits to being a honeypot

R: 38 / I: 14 / P: 2

some really deep shit is going on over on 8chan. /b/ quality has dropped tremendously and usercount has dropped off the deep end. all the politics boards are run by shills who work for globalists and ban literally anyone who tells the truth in a way that they disapprove of. 8chan and all of it's boards look even worse than 4chan at it's worst. It's not good.

I have been noticing a trend on all the boards of 8chan, which you should be typing in the address as httpS<---

that there are tons of data gathering threads disguised as "I'm bored so whats all your info".

here are a few examples of data gathering threads. you don't think they are building a profile on you? this is disgusting.

now shills are making up excuses in the hopes of using the "divide and conquer tactics" by blaming other boards to create infighting and destroy 8chan even further
the shills are panicking after the exposing of their tactics. extremely hilarious thread happens and shills get totally humiliated as their plan backfires instantly. archives linked below for your reading enjoyement.

>"The datamining scare"
>"They're flagging all discussion threads as "datamining" threads with little exception."
you mean like all the obvious data mining threads listed below?
>"The short-term goal of this is to cease all discussion on /b/ by convincing us that there is no discussion."
because letting data mining shill retards flood the whole catalog with "lul whats yur info" in poorly disguised threads is just excellent discussion!
>Do not let them destroy this website.
"lul he will not divide us, he will not devide us!"
pepe! pepe!!!
>If you have any issue with knowledge about you being on the internet, then don't post it. It's as simple as that.
when threads are made with sinister design for the purpose of extorting and extracting information from anons, it's as simple as getting bored that there are no quality threads because the shill threads pushed them off the page, and posting a reply in the wrong place, getting your info sent to a bad place without your consent. simple as that.
>flagging threads as datamining threads destroys it because it's a massive attempt at convincing everyone that the discussion here is not genuine,
>destroys it
>convincing everyone that the discussion here is not genuine,
>no no my shilling is failing, don't wake people up because our shilling will be "destroy" when they realize the discussion isn't genuine.

(after some discussion)
(even more discussion)

This is a link to a thread where the /b/ mods deleted a huge portion of the OP information. I would like to believe that it was a harmless joke. I would really like to. it only serves to fuel my paranoia about what we are facing here. it fuels my paranoia but also fuels my desire to dig deeper and function as a tool for the truth why would they not simply change the red text as a joke, rather than deleting all the information listed in the OP just to add one line of red text?

(((Google))) starts flagging offensive content in search results

>(((SAN FRANCISCO))) — With growing criticism over misinformation in search results, Google is taking a harder look at potentially "upsetting" or "offensive" content, tapping humans to aid its computer algorithms to deliver more factually accurate and less inflammatory results.
>The humans are Google's 10,000 independent contractors who work as what Google calls quality raters. They are given searches based on real queries to score the results, and they operate based on guidelines provided by Google.
>On Tuesday they were handed a new one: to hunt for "Upsetting-Offensive" content such as hate or violence against a group of people, racial slurs or offensive terminology, graphic violence including animal cruelty or child abuse or explicit information about harmful activities such as human trafficking, according to guidelines posted by Google.
>The goal: to steer people with queries such as "did the Holocaust happen" to trustworthy websites and not to websites that engage in falsehoods or hate speech.

Symbiont-Derived Antimicrobials Contribute to the Control of the Lepidopteran Gut Microbiota

Insects develop efficient antimicrobial strategies to flourish in a bacterial world. It has long been proposed that native gut microbiota is an important component of host defense; however, the responsible species have rarely been isolated to elucidate the mechanism of action. Here we show that the dominant symbiotic bacterium Enterococcus mundtii associated with the generalist herbivore Spodoptera littoralis actively secretes a stable class IIa bacteriocin (mundticin KS) against invading bacteria, but not against other gut residents, facilitating the normal development of host gut microbiota. A mundticin-defective strain lost inhibitory activity. Furthermore, purified mundticin cures infected larvae. Thus, the constitutively produced antimicrobials by native extracellular symbionts create a significant chemical barrier inside limiting invader expansion. This unique property also benefits E. mundtii itself by providing a competitive advantage, contributing to its dominance within complex microbial settings and its prevalence across Lepidoptera, and probably promotes the long-term cooperative symbiosis between both parties.

Millenium-old Sequoia, hollowed out for motorist use, toppled by storm

The famed Pioneer Cabin tree, known for its hollow center that allowed cars to pass through, collapsed during the intense storm that blasted California with heavy rain.

The giant sequoia was located in the Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Calaveras County, about 80 miles southeast of Sacramento.

The tree was a popular tourist site since the 1880s when a group of pioneers carved out the center. It became an iconic part of the state park. Until recently, cars were allowed to drive through.

Jim Allday, a park volunteer, found the collapsed tree on Sunday as a major storm barreled over central and northern California.

"When I went out there (Sunday afternoon), the trail was literally a river; the trail is washed out," Allday said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "I could see the tree on the ground. It looked like it was laying in a pond or lake with a river running through it."

The tree has shallow roots and its health has been deteriorating, Allday said.

According to the Calaveras Big Trees Association's Facebook page, "the storm was just too much" for the famed Sequoia, that was believed to be possibly more than 1,000 years old.

Transgender activist dies in Pakistan hospital while doctors try to figure out if it goes in the men’s or women’s ward

Transgender people in Pakistan, are angry after a woman needlessly died while waiting to be treated.

The transgender community said that it has seen an increased number of violence against them.

Now, a 23-year-old activist who was identified as Alisha, was a victim of hate when she was shot eight times on Sunday night in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Alisha was in critical condition and she needed emergency surgery following the attack.

However, her transgender friends claim that staff members at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, failed to give her the medical attention necessary to save her life.

Alisha has undergone emergency surgery, but she has not been placed in the ICU, where she would have been closely monitored and cared for.

Alisha was allegedly neglected while hospital staff were unsure whether to place her in the men’s or women’s ward of the hospital.

Furthermore, the friends claim that they have been sexually harassed at the hospital when staff members asked them how much they charged for lap dances.

The transgender advocacy group Trans Action Alliance (TAA), of which Alisha was a district coordinator, held protests in front of the police station while demanding that the suspect who shot Alisha should be arrested.

MEGA Ordered to Hand Over Users' Details to US Court

Mega, the cloud storage site founded by Kim Dotcom, has been ordered to hand the IP addresses and personal details of some of its users to a U.S. court. The ruling follows the uploading of sensitive documents to Mega following a hack on a foreign government computer system. Speaking with TorrentFreak, Mega chairman Stephen Hall expressed concerns over the process.

mega_logoWhen Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom launched his new Mega cloud-storage company in January 2013, the company was focused on one key issue – privacy.
Mega encrypts all files uploaded by users, meaning that no one other than the uploader can see what is in those files unless he or she shares their private key with a third party. But while Mega is secure in many respects, users can not expect complete anonymity.

From the start Mega made it clear it would carry communication logs, the IP addresses used by subscribers to access the service, and other personal information.
Nevertheless, although Dotcom is no longer part of the company (his current stance is actually one of hostility), Mega’s commitment to privacy has been maintained by its current operators. Just recently, however, their stance of keeping user information private has been challenged in court.

The case involves a hack on a Kazakhstan government computer system which is said to have taken place in August 2014 but was not unearthed until 2015.
According to the Kazakh authorities the hackers made off with a trove of information including thousands of sensitive documents and emails between the government and advisors in the United States. These were then uploaded and stored on Mega by either the hackers or individuals closely linked to them.

In order to begin tracking the hackers down, in May last year Kazakhstan filed a lawsuit in the United States against 100 unnamed “John Does” seeking an injunction and damages. The EFF became involved in the case after the Kazakhstan government tried to stop Respublika, a site which reports critically on Kazakhstan’s ruling regime, from publishing the leaks.

‘Men in Literature’ course cancelled for ignoring women

Springfield College recently cancelled a “Men in Literature” course on the grounds that its inordinate emphasis on one gender creates a “hostile environment” for women.

Professor Dennis Gouws began teaching the course back in 2005, and has offered it several times since then upon the encouragement of his department chair. The course was intended to survey contemporary culture’s preoccupation with gender by specifically focusing on the male role in culture.

“He never set out to be a gadfly against progressive dogma or a stalwart opponent of the ideological regime. He was, to the contrary, picked for the part by the regime itself,” Peter Wood, president of National Association of Scholars, explains in a detailed account of Gouws’ case.

Now, though, Springfield has determined that Gouws’ course is unfit to teach after the chair and dean of his department questioned the content of his syllabus, claiming that Gouws focused too much on the male’s societal function rather than his portrayal in literature.

Gouws agreed to change his syllabus to include more literary texts and fewer gender studies readings, but the university still ultimately decided to cancel the course, informing Gouws with a letter from Provost Jean Wyld on March 15.

According to the letter, Dean Anne Herzog deemed the proposed revisions to be insufficient, arguing that several of the remaining reading assignments involve materials that relate more to gender studies than to literature.

Administrators also reviewed the syllabi for three other courses taught by Gouws, ruling that two of them “appropriately focus on literature,” but raising objections to an essay assignment in his ENGL 113 Composition Course that asks students to “write about how men are treated in their respective academic environments.”

“You do not afford students the opportunity to choose a gender to write about nor do you require all students to write about the opposite gender,” the letter admonishes him, saying, “Such is certainly a concern from an academic and even legal perspective.

“Based on this it is our judgement that your chair and dean are well within their rights to question your course content and to request changes in your courses to ensure that they are aligned with the approved course outcomes,” Wyld writes. “We also believe that you should modify any assignment in ENGL 113 or in any other course you teach that would require students to focus on a single gender.”

China-UK Free Trade: How Brexit May Accelerate Sino-British Rapprochement

Some highlights:

London is bolstering Sino-British ties: the UK is interested in Chinese investments, especially in the wake of the historical Brexit vote.

“Britain will launch high-level trade missions to China, India

George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, claimed that Britain should become “China’s best partner in the West.”

Lu Zhengwei, chief economist for Industrial Bank in Shanghai, called for establishing China-UK free trade following the Brexit vote.

London Stock Exchange is Beijing’s second currency market to trade the yuan

China Minsheng Bank has opened its European office in London

Secondly, Beijing views London as the terminal point of its New Silk Road land route

“Britian’s calculations are clear,” the analyst explained, “they are seeking Chinese investments into Northern Powerhouse project aimed at linking Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle through a network of high speed railways.”

Thirdly, Brexit will allow Beijing to establish direct ties with The City

redistributing Chinese investments throughout the European bloc

the UK leadership is lobbying the internationalization of the gold-backed yuan.

one of the benefits China can gain from ‘Brexit’ is a stronger and closer economic relationship with the UK

Putin ally tells Americans: vote Trump or face nuclear war

Here's some quotes although I'd recommend you all to read the damn article for once.

"Relations between Russia and the United States can't get any worse. The only way they can get worse is if a war starts," said Zhirinovsky, speaking in his huge office on the 10th floor of Russia's State Duma, or lower house of parliament.

"Americans voting for a president on Nov. 8 must realize that they are voting for peace on Planet Earth if they vote for Trump. But if they vote for Hillary it's war. It will be a short movie. There will be Hiroshimas and Nagasakis everywhere."

"He (Trump) won't care about Syria, Libya and Iraq and why an earth should America interfere in these countries? And Ukraine. Who needs Ukraine?," said Zhirinovsky, who once counted himself a friend of Iraq's Saddam Hussein and Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi and whose deaths he still laments.

"Trump will have a brilliant chance to make relations more peaceful ... He's the only one who can do this," he said, adding that Trump could even win a Nobel peace prize.

"She craves power. Her view is that Hillary is the most important person on the planet, that America is an exceptional country, as Barack Obama said," said Zhirinovsky. "That's dangerous. She could start a nuclear war."

"Most Americans should choose Trump because men have been leading for millions of year. You can't take the risk of having one of the richest, most powerful countries led by a woman president," he said.

Asked about lewd comments Trump made about women in 2005 that have harmed his campaign, Zhirinovsky defended the Republican: "Men all round the world sometimes say such things that are just for their comrades. We must only consider his business (and political) qualities."

Though Putin and Trump have never met, Zhirinovsky said he believed they could establish a close working relationship, adding: "Victory for Trump would be a gift to humanity. But if Hillary Clinton wins it will be the last U.S. president ever."

Youtubers flee to

One can hear a lot of hue and cry around YouTube these days. The reason- YouTube’s new demonetization scheme according to which the world’s biggest video site is preemptively flagging some videos that have “non-advertising-friendly content.”

Seasoned ‘Tuber Philip DeFranco was one of the high-profile to speak out, likening YouTube’s actions to “censoring” people by hitting them in the wallet.

However, YouTube has refused any claims about policy change. While YouTubers have just started to complain that video about depression, videos with swearing, videos with controversial subject matter, and so on are being denied the opportunity to make money from ads, YouTube says the only thing that has changed is the way users are notified.

The company issued a statement which says, “While our policy of demonetizing videos due to advertiser-friendly concerns hasn’t changed, we’ve recently improved the notification and appeal process to ensure better communication to our creators.”

YouTube’s policies indicate a number of reasons ads may not be displayed on videos: “Sexually suggestive content including partial nudity and sexual humor, violence, including displays of serious injury and events related to violent extremism, inappropriate language including harassment, profanity and vulgar language, promotion of drugs and regulated substances, including selling, use and abuse of such items and controversial or sensitive subjects and events, including subjects related to war, political conflicts, natural disasters and tragedies even if graphic imagery is not shown”.

DeFranco, however doesn’t concur with them.

According to him, appealing demonetization decisions may be easier now; however, YouTube has also accidentally revealed that clandestine demonetization has been going on for some time.

Green Party personal info leaked

Jill Stein's running mate, Ajamu Baraka, has worked for at least two organisations funded by Soros

h ttps://

>"From 2004 to 2011, Baraka served as the founding executive director of the US Human Rights Network"

>"Baraka has served on the boards of several human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, the Center for Constitutional Rights"

Soros connection:

h ttp://

h ttps://

>"CCR [Center for Constitutional Rights] received contributions from […] the Open Society Foundation (founded by George Soros – $495,000)"

USHRN: h ttp://

archived: h ttps://

>"Funding for the network and its Geneva submission apparently comes from the Human Rights Fund, an umbrella group whose steering committee of philanthropies include the Ford >Foundation, George Soros’ Open Society Institute, the Overbrook Foundation and an anonymous donor."

Now, this raises a few questions. Mainly why anyone would consider (((Stein))) a credible alternative to Clinton, when they're both getting paid by the same lobbyist billionaire.

It also casts doubt on any positions Stein and Baraka hold that'd be contrary to Soros' agenda. Like their support for Palestine/BDS, and their statements against the Soros-backed coup in Ukraine, and the corrupt Junta in Kiev.

Controlled opposition? Would be an explanation why Soros is indirectly funding them.

Let's take a closer look on the so-called US Human Rights Network:

>"What they apparently share, according to their mammoth Human Rights Council submission, is a militant vision of the U.S. as a malignant force."

>"The organization seeks "to challenge the pernicious belief that the United States is inherently superior to other countries of the world"

Well, oy vey, goyim, don't you dare being proud of your country!

That sounds more like something everyone's favourite Social Justice Merchant would come up with.

Now, Soros also has well-known ties to "Blacklivesmatter", something else that ties him directly to (((Jill Stein))):

h ttp://

h ttps://

h ttps://

In conclusion, Baraka is Soros' personal house nigger, BLM are useful idiots, and nothing the Green Party does can be taken at face value.

They're dancing to the tune of the Open Society Foundatiion.

Which brings me to the next point:

Here’s the short version: Pepe is a cartoon frog who began his internet life as an innocent meme enjoyed by teenagers and pop stars alike.
But in recent months, Pepe’s been almost entirely co-opted by the white supremacists who call themselves the “alt-right.” They’ve decided to take back Pepe by adding swastikas and other symbols of anti-semitism and white supremacy.
“We basically mixed Pepe in with Nazi propaganda, etc. We built that association,” one prominent white supremacist told the Daily Beast.
Trump has retweeted his white supremacist supporters with regularity, but the connection between the alt-right and his campaign continues to strengthen. Trump has been slow to disavow support from Ku Klux Klansmen and white supremacy groups, and he recently hired’s Steve Bannon as his campaign CEO (and Bannon isn’t shy about the fact that his “news” organization is the “platform for the alt-right”).
Now white supremacists have given Pepe the cartoon frog some Trump hair—and the candidate’s own son says he is “honored to be grouped with” him.

Let me get this straight: Trump’s presidential campaign is posting memes associated with white supremacy online?

The clearnet is dying, decentralized hosting is the last hope for imageboards.
>nntpchan (previously known as overchan) is a decentralized imageboard that uses the NNTP protocol to synchronize content between many different servers. it utilizes cryptographically signed posts to perform optional/opt-in decentralized moderation.

>if you want your post seen across all of nntpchan, don't put files in it. if you post files from this server, it's very likely the entire post won't show up on clearnet servers because they fear the CP (not that CP won't be nuked here or anything). currently, most tor&i2p nodes allow files between each other.

British air force admits involvement in airstrikes which hit Syrian govt troops
Britain’s military has admitted involvement in an airstrike in eastern Syria which reportedly killed over 60 Syrian Army troops. Subsequent reports suggest a Reaper drone may have been used.

>The strike in the area of Deir el-Zor was originally attributed to Australian, US and Danish forces operating as part of the US-led coalition but the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) tweeted on Monday that it had been involved.

>“The UK would not intentionally target Syrian military units. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.
>The Russian Defense Ministry said that the aircraft which carried out the bombings had entered Syrian airspace from the territory of Iraq.
>Four strikes against Syrian positions was performed by two F-16 jet fighters and two A-10 support aircraft, it added.
>“If the airstrike was caused by the wrong coordinates of targets than it’s a direct consequence of the stubborn unwillingness of the American side to coordinate with Russia in its actions against terrorist groups in Syria,” Konashenkov stressed.
>UK airstrikes have been officially carried out as part of Operation Shader in Syria since a vote in favour in December 2015. A previous vote in 2013 did not authorize air strikes.
>UK forces have been operating from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. It emerged in August that British Special Forces were also operating on the ground in the country.

Sex slaves permissible: Outrage as Muslim cleric at mosque tells teenagers that 'captives' are permissible under Islam

A hardline Muslim preacher suspected of radicalising three British jihadis told teenage disciples that it is ‘permissible’ under Islam to have sex slaves.

Ali Hammuda, an Imam at a Cardiff mosque where three young jihadis from the city worshipped before travelling to Syria to join Islamic State, also told the group of boys as young as 13 that the ‘day of judgment is close’ – a key part of IS’s warped propaganda.

The revelations come amid heightened fears over the Islamist terror threat in the UK in the wake of the bloody attacks in France.

Hammuda is still preaching at the same mosque, two years after the three ‘Cardiff jihadis’ – Nasser Muthana and Reyaad Khan, then 20, and Muthana’s younger brother Aseel, then 17 – left for Syria in 2014.

Female Genital Mutilation in U.S. Up More than 200 Percent Since 1990

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that number of women and girls in the United States who are “at risk of or may have been subjected” to female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) has increased three-fold over the past decades,” however the crime is rarely investigated or prosecuted, according to the Government Accountability Office.

The government attributes the growing incidents of this brutal practice in the U.S. to increased immigration from countries — largely in Africa and the Middle East — where FGM/C is practiced.

According to recent estimates, in 2012, 513,000 women and girls in the U.S. were subjected to or at risk of FGM/C, vastly higher than the 168,000 estimated in 1990.

In a report publicly released Monday, the GAO examined the federal response to the domestic practice of FGM/C, determining that while the crime of FGM/C is growing in the U.S. it has inspired few actual investigations.

Chinese Scientists Set to Pioneer First CRISPR Trial in Humans

Chinese team will attempt to treat lung cancer with CRISPR-modified cells in August:

There have been a number of human clinical trials using an alternative gene-editing technique, including one led by June, that have helped patients combat HIV. June (researcher in immunotherapy) is also a scientific adviser on a planned US trial that would also use CRISPR-Cas9-modified cells for the treatment of cancer.

The US researchers have said they could start their clinical trial by the end of this year.

If the clinical trial begins as planned, it would be the latest in a series of firsts for China in the field of CRISPR gene editing, including the first CRISPR-edited human embryos, and the first CRISPR-edited monkeys. "When it comes to gene editing, China goes first," says Ishii.

Jim Willie: Dollar Destruction “Will Send Shock Waves Throughout The U.S.”

Mac Slavo
August 5th, 2016

The entire house of cards is crumbling, and the empire is more desperate than ever to hold it together.

Jim Willie of tells the X22 Report that the dollar will soon be refused in international trade, and the loss of the dollar’s status will trigger massive shock waves throughout the U.S. and around the globe.

This isn’t just the same old warning about the someday-coming apocalypse. This is stuff that is really happening around the world. Geopolitical events, narcotrafficking and megabank money laundering are all reaching tipping points; the banks are insolvent, and their operators are readying the collapse.

The day will come soon when things will never look the same again. The U.S. we have all known is dying, and the American people will be left in shambles, as desperate to survive as Venezuelans are today.

This is a powerful and eye-opening interview:

Our economic future has never been more bleak. These are serious times indeed.

Let us pray for protection, and prepare everything we’ve got.

Dems to Obama: Don't Deport Illegals Now, It's an Election Year

House Democrats are condemning the Obama administration's plan to resume deportations of asylum seekers who've been denied refugee status – raids the lawmakers worry could negatively impact voting this November.

"This is ill-advised, ill-timed and counterproductive on anything we're talking about in terms of galvanizing our community for the upcoming elections," Arizona Democratic Rep. Raúl Grijalva tells The Hill.

"When we're trying to distinguish ourselves as being more humane ... and trying to distinguish ourselves from ... the rhetoric and what [Donald] Trump is saying about this issue ... here we are carrying out and proposing to carry out these raids, which I think are a huge mistake."

Argues Illinois Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez, "These are not illegal immigrants."

"These are children, these are people fleeing violence," he tells The Hill. "They are asylum seekers."

The critics charge the new wave comes four months after the Department of Homeland Security rounded up 121 illegal immigrants – most of them women and children who came from Central America as part of the 2014 migrant surge.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, also called for the administration to "reconsider" the raids, saying in a statement the children and their famlies "are fleeing extreme violence in Central America and they should have a chance to seek relief."

Both Democratic contenders — Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders – condemned the plans as well, The Hill reports.

The department defended the operations.

"Current operations are a continuation of operations Secretary [Jeh] Johnson announced in January and March,” spokeswoman Marsha Catron tells The Hill.

Panic Mode: Khizr Khan Deletes Law Firm Website that Specialized in Muslim Immigration

Khizr Khan, the Muslim Gold Star father that Democrats and their allies media wide have been using to hammer GOP presidential nominee Donald J. Trump, has deleted his law firm’s website from the Internet.

This development is significant, as his website proved—as Breitbart News and others have reported—that he financially benefits from unfettered pay-to-play Muslim migration into America.

A snapshot of his now deleted website, as captured by the Wayback Machine which takes snapshots archiving various websites on the Internet, shows that as a lawyer he engages in procurement of EB5 immigration visas and other “Related Immigration Services.”
The website is completely removed from the Internet, and instead directs visitors to the URL at which it once was to a page parking the URL run by GoDaddy.

The EB5 program, which helps wealthy foreigners usually from the Middle East essentially buy their way into America, is fraught with corruption. U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has detailed such corruption over the past several months, and in February issued a blistering statement about it.

“Maybe it is only here on Capitol Hill—on this island surrounded by reality—that we can choose to plug our ears and refuse to listen to commonly accepted facts,” Grassley said in a statement earlier this year. “The Government Accountability Office, the media, industry experts, members of congress, and federal agency officials, have concurred that the program is a serious problem with serious vulnerabilities. Allow me to mention a few of the flaws.”

US government releases secret chapter from 9/11 report

The U.S. government on Friday released a once-secret chapter from a congressional report on the 9/11 attacks that addresses Saudi connections to some of the hijackers, a move sure to recharge speculation over what — if anything — Saudi government officials knew.

Under wraps for 13 years, the report contains numerous redactions but states some hijackers “were in contact with, and received support or assistance from, individuals who may be connected to the Saudi Government.”

The documents were posted Friday by the House intelligence committee, after being declassified.

The report questioned whether Saudis who were in contact with the hijackers after they arrived in the U.S. knew what they were planning. The document — known as the so-called “28 pages” — names people the hijackers associated with before they carried out the attacks. It identifies individuals who helped the hijackers get apartments, open bank accounts, attend local mosques and get flight lessons.

The document says Omar al-Bayoumi, a Saudi national who helped two of the hijackers in California, was suspected of being a Saudi intelligence officer. The 9/11 Commission report found him to be an “unlikely candidate for clandestine involvement” with Islamic extremists. The new document says that according to FBI files, al-Bayoumi had “extensive contact with Saudi government establishments in the United States and received financial support from a Saudi company affiliated with the Saudi Ministry of Defense. … That company reportedly had ties to Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida,” which orchestrated the attacks.

The document also points to Osama Bassnan, who lived across the street from two of the hijackers in California. According to an FBI document, Bassnan told another individual that he met the hijackers through al-Bayoumi. Bassnan told an FBI asset that “he did more than al-Bayoumi did for the hijackers.”

Light Pollution Prevents 80% of North Americans From Seeing the Milky Way

This remember's me of Darker than Black... if you haven't watched this show yet, do it.

A new atlas has illustrated that 80% of North Americans are prevented from seeing the Milky Way's bulge by light pollution:
The luminous glow of light pollution prevents nearly 80 percent of people in North America from seeing the Milky Way in the night sky. That's according to a new atlas of artificial night sky brightness that found our home galaxy is now hidden from more than one-third of humanity.
While there are countries were the majority of people still live under pristine, ink-black sky conditions - places such as Chad, Central African Republic and Madagascar - more than 99 percent of the people living in the U.S. and Europe look up and see light-polluted skies.
The country with the worst light-pollution is Singapore, where researchers found that "the entire population lives under skies so bright that the eye cannot fully dark-adapt to night vision." Other countries with large percentages of people living under skies this bright include Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

'One ISIS attack every 84 hours' spurs dread and anger in Europe

In the past week I have seen flowers and candles carpeting a street in Munich, the tranquility of a small Bavarian town shattered by a suicide bomb and a small church in suburban France sealed off after its octogenarian priest had his throat cut.
Before these horrific events, there was a knife-wielding teenager on a German train. And before that, much deadlier attacks in Nice, Brussels and last November, in Paris.

This year has seen an accelerating pattern of attacks linked to ISIS in Europe and beyond -- from Turkey to Bangladesh, the United States to Indonesia. According to the group IntelCenter, which tracks acts of terrorism, there has been a significant attack directed or inspired by ISIS every 84 hours since June 8 in cities outside the war zones in Iraq, Syria, Sinai in Egypt and Libya. CNN's own tracking of attacks supports that conclusion.

Ayahuasca stimulates the birth of new brain cells - latest findings from the Beckley/Sant Pau Research Programme

They found that harmine and tetrahydroharmine, the alkaloids present in highest amounts in ayahuasca, stimulate the growth and maturation of neurons and promote their birth from the stem cells.

This is the first study ever conducted that demonstrates that components of the Ayahuasca brew have potent neurogenic properties.****Although the results are preliminary, they show that the addition of harmine and tetrahydroharmine to cell cultures containing neural stem cells dramatically increased their differentiation, and their maturation into neurons.

The replication of the present findings in vivo would open a totally new avenue of research for ayahuasca and its active principles. Potential applications would range from treating**neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, to redressing brain damage associated with stroke or trauma.

Baby develops 'sexual urges' and grows pubic hair due to extremely rare condition

The boy, named Akash to protect his identity, suffers from “precocious puberty” that has also resulted in him growing body hair
An Indian toddler has developed sexual urges and pubic hair as a result of a rare condition.
Testosterone in the Delhi-born one-year-old, dubbed Akash to protect his identity, has rocketed to the level of a 25-year-old.
And symptoms of his rare condition , called “precocious puberty” have resulted in him growing facial and body hair as well as sexual urges .
His mum, whose name has also not been revealed, said Akash had started growing abnormally from about six-months-old .
She said: “We thought he was just a big baby but later everyone started to point out that that this growth couldn’t be normal.
“His penis had grown to that of a man’s size and we knew something was wrong.”
The boy’s doctor Vaishakhi Rustagi said: “Usually this disorder is caused due to brain or stomach tumour, but we didn’t find anything as such in blood reports.
“The child was lucky in a way because tumour usually increases complications and leads to cancer.”
The paediatrician, of Max Super Speciality Hospital, said he saw similar cases 'once every 10 years' and added: “Precocious puberty is traumatic for a child of his age and it makes them violent.
“His muscle strength increased to a level that even his parents couldn’t control him.
“If such children are not treated, they will become violent. The physical changes will not be suitable for their age.
"They will also stop growing after a few years and remain about 3-4ft tall.”
Akash was put on hormone therapy after his parents went to see a doctor when he was 18 months old and his voice had started to break.
His hormonal developments and genital size decreased after five months.
He is now given a monthly dose which blocks the effects of hormones.
The treatment will continue until he is mentally stable enough to grasp the changes in his body.

Parking Garage Attendant Foils Terrorist Plan To Kill Trump Supporters at Houston Rally

At 1:18PM Friday, an large African-American man was observed lurking on the 4th floor of the Waterway Parking garage at #24 Waterway Street in the Woodlands, Texas with an assault rifle mounted to a tripod. Why is this significant?

#24 Waterside is adjacent to the Waterway Marriot Convention Center – the venue for Friday nights Houston Trump Rally.

The Montgomery County sheriff department arrested a man connected to the incident, that the New York Daily news has identified as “Kenny.”

At the time of his arrest, Kenny was inside the back of his van with the back doors open, facing a large crowd in front of the convention center.

Additionally numerous threats were posted on Twitter, prior to and after the rally, calling for the assassination of Donald Trump and his supporters. Said threats were ignored by the Secret Service, Houston FBI, and local police, says Mark Dice.

Considering the location and time the gunman was found, it is highly unlikely he was there to assassinate Donald Trump.

Donald Trump didn’t arrive at the convention center until 7:20 pm. Additionally, there is no place inside and or on top of the parking garage that would have offered the gunman a view of where Donald Trump entered the venue.

The secret service would never bring Trump into the front entrance of a venue, literally walking him within a few feet of hundreds of people who had not yet entered the venue to be screened through metal and explosive detectors.

Trump supporters entered the front of this building – Trump entered the opposite side protected by the building itself. This is what the shooter would have seen from the 4th floor of the parking garage. (stock photo – shot before people lined up for the rally)

Trump entered the venue through a side entrance of the convention center that did not offer the gunman or anyone with a sniper’s rifle an unobstructed opportunity to take a shot at Trump.

Gender Ideology Harms Children

1. Human sexuality is an objective biological binary trait: “XY” and “XX” are genetic markers of health – not genetic markers of a disorder.
2. No one is born with a gender. Everyone is born with a biological sex. Gender (an awareness and sense of oneself as male or female) is a sociological and psychological concept; not an objective biological one.
3. A person’s belief that he or she is something they are not is, at best, a sign of confused thinking.
4. Puberty is not a disease and puberty-blocking hormones can be dangerous.
5. According to the DSM-V, as many as 98% of gender confused boys and 88% of gender confused girls eventually accept their biological sex after naturally passing through puberty.
6. Children who use puberty blockers to impersonate the opposite sex will require cross-sex hormones in late adolescence. Cross-sex hormones (testosterone and estrogen) are associated with dangerous health risks including but not limited to high blood pressure, blood clots, stroke and cancer.
7. Rates of suicide are twenty times greater among adults who use cross-sex hormones and undergo sex reassignment surgery, even in Sweden which is among the most LGBTQ – affirming countries.
8. Conditioning children into believing that a lifetime of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex is normal and healthful is child abuse.

And people are surprised kids can end up in a gorilla tank. Smh.

I am completely on board with this woman minus the fact that shes doing it in 2016 when everyone has got a camera phone and you’re gonna go viral for it. But the actual practice of tossing your kid in those poor people Modell bags? Big fan. If this was basically anytime in history pre-2003, I would endorse this 100%. Carry your kid around succcccks. Life is just like “here, hold this bowling ball. Carry it everywhere you go.” And everyone expects you to treat it like its precious cargo that you have to hold so delicately and properly, when in reality its just this cumbersome ass human that you gotta awkwardly trudge around. Limbs flailing. Body wiggling around. Just stuff that little bunnyer in a shopping bag and throw it over your shoulder like its some luggage. And when you take em out of the bag toss a leash on em. Even in remotest Africa, Windows 10 nagware ruins your day: Update burns satellite link cash

When you're stuck in the middle of the Central African Republic (CAR) trying to protect the wildlife from armed poachers and the Lord's Resistance Army, then life's pretty tough. And now Microsoft has made it tougher with Windows 10 upgrades.
The Chinko Project manages roughly 17,600 square kilometres (6,795 square miles) of rainforest and savannah in the east of the CAR, near the border with South Sudan. Money is tight, and so is internet bandwidth. So the staff was more than a little displeased when one of the donated laptops the team uses began upgrading to Windows 10 automatically, pulling in gigabytes of data over a radio link.
And it's not just bandwidth bills they have to worry about.
"If a forced upgrade happened and crashed our PCs while in the middle of coordinating rangers under fire from armed militarized poachers, blood could literally be on Microsoft's hands," said one member of the team.
"I just came here recently to act as their pilot but have IT skills as well. The guy who set these PCs up didn't know how to prevent it, or set a metered connection. I am completely livid."
The Reg has been reporting a lot on the Windows 10 upgrade fiasco, so decided to investigate – and the story checks out. A team member told us the Chinko Project uses satellite communications for internet access and gets charged quite a lot for data, so the multi-gigabyte automatic upgrade was even more frustrating than for the rest of us.
"We don't need to upgrade our internet, as the limited bandwidth we have is sufficient. But we just can't abide these forced upgrades and secret downloads," one member, who asked to remain anonymous, told El Reg. "We have donated laptops with Windows 7 and 8 all over the place that I'm trying to track down and fix."
To add insult to injury, the team had only just got their satellite system up and running again after a storm tore open the roof of the building housing the setup. After taking a battering, the hardware is operational again, but is needed for far more serious things than pumping up Windows 10 usage figures.
Stopped ... One of the project's satellite-linked computers installing a Windows 10 blocker
It's not easy running something like the Chinko Project. The non-profit group is trying to protect a huge amount of land containing forest and savannah elephants, as well as lions, leopard, and the beautiful Bongo antelope.
The project set up motion-activated cameras over the area to catalogue and research the surrounding wildlife, and has collected over 700,000 sightings. It works with local people to provide employment and education in its quest to preserve this unique part of Africa.
However, they are having to deal with armed ivory poachers who see the preserve as a source of quick cash, as well as cattle herders harvesting bush meat for sale. The Lord's Resistance Army, a religious cult, has also been spotted in the CAR, adding to the site's troubles.
The project has rangers who patrol the area as much as possible against well-armed and determined foes. To do this more efficiently, the project has a small aircraft that can coordinate movements and track both wildlife and incursions.
Sadly, an unexpectedly rough landing has put the aircraft out of action and the group is now trying to raise the funds to get a new one. It's vitally important to get the team airborne again, so if you want to do some good check out the fundraising site and contribute some beer vouchers if you can, and Microsoft should also hand over a big donation for inconveniencing and potentially endangering the group.

'Shocking' Holocaust Study Claims Nazis Killed Up To 20 Million People

The Nazi Holocaust may have claimed up to 20 million lives, a figure far greater than previous estimates, new research has revealed.

The millions disappeared into a Nazi imprisonment and killing machine that covered a bloody swathe of Europe and appears to have been far more deadly than has been thought.

Up until now, the Holocaust is thought to have consumed between five and six million Jews, with an estimated further six million other people also murdered by the Nazi regime.

The new figures of 15 to 20 million, which have astonished some Holocaust historians, come after thirteen years of painstaking study at Washington's Holocaust Memorial Museum . Historians at the museum brought together and studied the huge amount, and often disparate, files and research on the Holocaust.

"The results of our research are shocking," Geoffrey Megargee, the director of the study, told The Independent newspaper. "We are putting together numbers that no one ever compiled before, even for camp systems that have been fairly well researched - and many of them have not been."

While Auschwitz and the Warsaw Ghetto became infamous names linked to the system of mass killing, the museum found that they were just part of a extensive network that imprisoned and obliterated millions of lives.

The research covered some 42,400 camps and ghettos across Europe, and also included forced-labour camps and Nazi "care" centres where pregnant women were forced to have an abortion or had their child killed right after giving birth. It also drew in camps, prisons and killing grounds used by Nazi puppet regimes in countries such as France and Romania.

The number of locations is almost double previous estimates made by the same institution and, all told, they may have imprisoned and killed between 15 to 20 million people.

"The numbers are so much higher than what we originally thought," Hartmut Berghoff, director of the German Historical Institute in America, said in an interview after learning of the new data. "We knew before how horrible life in the camps and ghettos was but the numbers are unbelievable.

Man’s sexual encounter with a drainpipe caught on CCTV

This pervert couldn’t resist a drainpipe with that come-to-bed spout.

Mind-boggling footage shows the man cautiously approach the drainpipe, which is attached to someone’s home in China.

He pulls down his trousers, presses his arms against the wall and proceeds to wildly thrust at the inanimate object that is protruding out of the wall.

At one point, he appears to look directly at the CCTV but continues completely unfazed.

The footage first appeared on Chinese social media Weibo, but has since been shared on and received more than 118,000 views.

After watching the 55-second video, people have been getting out their best puns.

RaksenVorkine said: ‘It’s not the size of your pipe…’

Followed by Fonsini, who said: ‘The washing machine never got over the fact that he cheated on her.’

Bohica69 added: ‘Well that gives laying some pipe a whole new meaning.’

The location of the incident and identity of the man is yet to be confirmed.

As for the drainpipe… it’s seen better days.

Judge forces porch monkey to remove bag of weed from underwear after courtroom overwhelmed by skunk smell

Judges are not known for their sense of humor, nor do they appreciate having their time wasted. Being a judge is a job that requires an abundance of patience, but that does not mean they have time for any tomfoolery in their courtroom. A gentleman by the name of Darius Dabney found that out the hard way when he stank up a Hamilton County, Ohio, courtroom with the big ol’ bag of weed shoved in his underwear. Did I mention that he was also the defendant?
So according to Fox19Now, Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge Bernie Bouchard showed he was not to trifled with when his courtroom was permeated by the skunky stench of marijuana. He gave whoever was holding it the opportunity to come forward, threatening to call in the drug dogs if no one would ‘fess up to making his courtroom smell his college dorm room*. So Dabney raised his hand. And thanks to the magic fingers of the court reporter, we have a transcript of their exchange:

>MR. DABNEY: I smoked marijuana before I got here.
>THE COURT: Okay. Well, do you have it on you?
>MR. DABNEY: No, sir.
>THE COURT: Well, it doesn’t smell to me like burnt.

Props to Judge Bouchard for having the olfactory sense to distinguish between pot smoke and fresh marijuana buds despite never having smoked weed in his life, I’m sure.

>MR. DABNEY: I’m cool then.
>THE COURT: You’re safe, you think?
>MR. DABNEY: I know I am.
>THE COURT: What time did you smoke it?
>MR. DABNEY: Shit, like since 9:00, 9:15. I’ll be honest about that. I ain’t going to hold you up, Mr. Bernie. I just got out on a probation violation for a dirty piss, so I smoked this morning. I ain’t going to hold you up. I ain’t going to hold you up. It’s me. I got —
>THE COURT: What’s your name? Do you remember that?
>MR. DABNEY: I don’t know that right now.
>THE COURT: Okay. Why don’t you come up here and have a seat so we can maybe — maybe we can take it out in the hall. I don’t care what your name is. Come on up. Maybe you can remember your name by the time you sit up here. Have a seat right over here.

So then Dabney’s lawyer came up and the judge enlightened him to the fact that his client had just admitted to smoking weed right before court. Bouchard told Dabney he was holding him in contempt, making him spend a night in jail and giving him a $1,000 fine.

>THE COURT: Anyway, but you’re going to be doing a day anyway, so tomorrow we can take care of it. Now, listen to me, Mr. Dabney. If you got it on you it’s going to be a felony when they strip you over there so I’ll give you one last time to tell me if you have any unburnt marijuana on you. I’m giving you — oh, ah-ha.

>(Defendant pulled a bag of marijuana out of his pants.)

>THE COURT: Okay. So finally you came clean. If there’s anything else, this is your opportunity. We’re going to destroy it. Are you sure?

>(Defendant pulled another bag of marijuana out of his pants.)

>THE COURT: Oh my lord. Anything else, I mean, because —
>THE COURT: Mr. Dabney, I’m telling you — now why would you do that? Why would you bring that much pot to court?
>THE DEFENDANT: I forgot it in my car, sir.
>THE COURT: You forgot it in your underwear.
>MR. MOORE: He said car, Judge.
>THE COURT: Say what?
>THE DEFENDANT: I don’t know, sir.

I’m sorry, but I am full on CRYING TEARS EMOJI right now. I need this to be a one-act play. “HE SAID CAR, JUDGE.” You can’t make this shit up.
Anyway, Dabney’s lawyer decided to take advantage of the situation and points out that Dabney is probably too impaired to be participating in the day’s court proceedings after all – nice job, counselor – and the judge agreed. But before he let Dabney leave – to go spend the night in a cell – Judge Bouchard took a moment to offer some priceless wisdom:

>THE COURT: You know what, I just want to tell you one thing. You know, at some point in your life all you have left is your word, okay, you know, and to be honest. You hear what I’m saying? You know, it’s just so disappointing that, you know, you try to lie. I’ve been in court every day for 20 years as an assistant prosecutor, a magistrate, and a judge. And for you to think that I’m stupid and you’re going to pull one over on me, I mean, that’s just illogical. But you know what I appreciate in this courtroom is honesty, you know. If you can say I did something, I’m sorry, I learned from it, that goes a long way than no I didn’t and lying, you know. So, I mean, you did come clean, but it took a little coaxing, but that’s better than you getting charged with a felony for bringing drugs into the jail. You know what I’m saying? So I hope that you at least learned from this and can be honest in the future.

This story is genuinely full of heroes.
Now, I wonder what happened to Dabney’s 1.5 oz of marijuana?

Chewable amphetamines for kids are here

Parents: Are you tired of begging your kids to swallow their daily amphetamines so they will calm down and listen to teacher, and are they getting too smart for you to hide pills in their food? Then you’ll be happy to know chewable amphetamines are here to make medicating those little monsters a fun, fruit-flavored experience.

Manufactured by Neos Therapeutics, Adzenys is an ADHD drug similar to Adderall in that they are both amphetamine-based, with one tasty difference: Adzenys dissolves in your mouth. It was approved for kids ages six and up in January and hit the market last week. On a conference call with various company higher-ups and financial analysts, CEO Vipin Garg talked enthusiastically of how the company’s sales team was excited to “engage with physicians” about this great new drug “ahead of the back-to-school season.” Because our nation’s youngsters are not abusing ADHD meds enough as it is.

While the FDA thinks it’s fine for drug reps to sell doctors on the benefits of candy Ritalin, some psychiatrists are raising concerns. Via Stat News:

>Presenting amphetamines in a tasty, convenient package is “a recipe for people to request it and then sell it,” said Dr. Mukund Gnanadesikan, a child and adolescent psychiatrist in Napa, Calif.“I’m not a big fan of controlled substances that come in forms that can be easily abused — and certainly a chewable drug falls into that category,”
Gnanadesikan said.

Um, has Dr. Gnanadesikan been to a college campus lately? If those kids were on any more speed, they’d be Sandra Bullock.

Of course, these kinds of drugs can be legitimately helpful for people suffering from ADHD, and a chewable version would be great for those who have trouble swallowing pills. But given how many nature Nazis (and um, experts) are already worried big pharma is over-medicating our children for profit, with a market that tripled to $12.7 billion in just the last decade, this is bound to piss some people off.

Russian jet pilot lands on US carrier, pees on deck, doesn’t wash hands, leaves

Crew members aboard the aircraft carrier USS Scott Baio were left shocked on Friday when without warning, a Russian pilot landed his jet on the carrier’s flight deck, after which he exited the aircraft and urinated on the deck for as long as 45 seconds before returning to his aircraft to take off.
Rear Admiral Josiah Clark says that pilot of the SU-24 Fencer took virtually no notice of the hundred or so American servicemembers who gathered around while he relieved himself.
“We shot him some very disapproving looks, and one lieutenant even shouted ‘that’s gross,’ but either the pilot couldn’t hear us through his helmet or didn’t care,” Clark said. “Apart from some minor psychological trauma, no one was injured in the incident, and we had the puddle cleaned up within minutes, but obviously we’re not pleased.”
Acting Assistant Navy Undersecretary Brianna Moreno says that she is working with staff to develop rules of engagement in case similar incidents transpire in the future.
“We will not tolerate foreign pilots using our ships as giant porta-potties,” Moreno said. “That said, we need to keep our cool. We don’t exactly want to overreact and start a third world war, either.”
“One solution might be to post signs in Russian, Chinese and other languages stating that unauthorized urination is forbidden, and one sailor came up with the brilliant idea of uploading videos of offenders to YouTube, so that they might be publicly shamed in their home countries,” she said.
This is the second time that the ship, a Nimitz-class supercarrier which was passing through the Levantine Sea at the time of the incident, has been the target of Russian crudeness. In 2012, it was boarded by rowdy and visibly intoxicated crew members of a passing yacht owned by Moscow billionaire Vasily Stinkilov. The five stumbling intruders found their way into a galley, removed six dozen eggs, and ran back to their own ship, prompting Senior Chief Brian Cuquehold, who is in charge of food service on the USS Scott Baio, to chase after them to warn that the expiration date had passed.

Man, 64, given penis from dead body in organ transplant after losing genitals to cancer

The new penis was provided by a donor and successfully attached during a 15-hour operation

A 64-year-old man has become the first in his country to undergo a successful penis transplant operation.

Thomas Manning was diagnosed with penile cancer in 2012, with doctors eventually resorting to drastic measures in order to save his life.

Following his diagnosis, Thomas, from Massachusetts, was told he would need a full penis removal.

But four years after going through the drastic surgery, Thomas has undergone a penis transplant operation - becoming the first man in the United States to do so.

In an epic 15-hour long surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital , doctors were able to attach a new penis, provided by a deceased donor, to Thomas.

Speaking about his surgery and what the future holds, bank courier Thomas said: "Today I begin a new chapter filled with personal hope and hope for others who have suffered genital injuries.

"Particularly for our service members who put their lives on the line and suffer serious damage as a result."

Before the surgery, Thomas was left with a small stump, around an inch long and had to sit down to urinate.

Claiming intimacy was out of the question, Thomas, from Halifax, said: "I wouldn't go near anybody", reports the New York Times .

But romance could once again be on the cards for Thomas, who says he wants to be open about his operation in order to help others seek help.

Speaking about the incredible surgical feat, Dr. Curtis Cetrulo hoped the procedure can become more commonplace, in order to help others rebuild their lives.

He said: "We are hopeful these reconstructive techniques will allow us to alleviate the suffering and despair of those who have experienced devastating genitourinary injuries."

Speaking about the helplessness felt by some of the patients with genital injuries, Dr. Curtis Cetrulo added that some are, "often so despondent they consider taking their own lives."

In a statement, Manning thanked the doctors and said he hoped other patients needing similar surgeries would be more likely to receive organ donations as a result of his successful operation.

In 2014, doctors in South Africa became the first in the world to perform a successful penis transplant after attaching a penis to a 21-year-old man who had the organ removed after a botched circumcision.

Google patents a protective 'flypaper' coating that will keep pedestrians on the hood after getting hit by its self-driving car

Google has come up with a way to keep pedestrians who are hit by self-driving cars off the road... and stuck to the hood.
The company has received a new patent for a protective coating on the car's hood, front bumper and front side panels that would act as flypaper, taking the pedestrian from struck to stuck.
Google explains that when pedestrians are struck by cars, injury comes not only from the initial impact with the vehicle - but from the 'secondary impact' when they hit the road or another car.
The adhesive coating Google has proposed would be covered by another 'protective coating' that would shatter from the impact of a collision, including one involving a person or animal.
That would then expose the adhesive coating, which would bond the pedestrian to the vehicle and keep them from 'bouncing off' into the street and incoming traffic.
'The adhesion of the pedestrian to the vehicle may prevent the pedestrian from bouncing off,' the patent reads.
Google received the patent on Tuesday, acknowledging that technology has not yet developed to the point where self-driving cars will be able to avoid all accidents.
The company acknowledges in the patent that two car companies have developed their own technology in an attempt to protect more pedestrians from cars.
Google notes certain Jaguar models have a deployable hood that comes up several inches in the moment of impact, softening the blow.
And certain European Volvo models has an air bag on the outside of the car, along the base of the windshield, in an effort to protect pedestrians from head injuries, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
But, Google writes in the patent, these technologies only protect pedestrians in the moment of impact.
'Existing technologies found in production vehicles does little to mitigate the secondary impact a pedestrian may experience after during a collision with a vehicle,' the patent reads.
'This secondary impact can often cause severe injuries to the pedestrian, as the road surface or other object does not exhibit any sort of compliance or cushioning as the vehicle front end might.'
Google said the new patent does not necessarily mean the flypaper hood technology is on the way, but it has joined one of many ideas in a future that would include the company's self-driving cars.
'We hold patents on a variety of ideas,' a Google spokeswoman told the paper.
'Some of those ideas later mature into real products and services, some don't.'

Justin Trudeau's elbow punctuates his least sunny day

After the bells have rung to summon members, the whips of the government and official opposition enter the House of Commons together, walk up the centre aisle along their sides, bow towards the Speaker, bow to each other and then take their seats.

It is this routine that signals to the Speaker that the House is ready to take a vote.

And it is this bit of pageantry that led the prime minister to be accused on Wednesday night of manhandling a fellow MP and elbowing another in the chest.

And so did the prime minister punctuate his least sunny day (at least so far).

On the available video, Liberal whip Andrew Leslie and Conservative whip Gord Brown can be seen beginning the walk together, but Brown is soon lost in a crowd of New Democrats. Leslie politely waits, but then proceeds.

Leslie turns and walks over to Trudeau and Liberal House leader Dominic LeBlanc and the three men look down to where Brown is located behind three New Democrats: Tom Mulcair, David Christopherson and Ruth Ellen Brosseau.

Christopherson and Mulcair have their backs to Brown and Brown can't seem to get past them, Christopherson and Mulcair unfortunately stepping into his path. (Elizabeth May would later testify that she had seen "some mischief" on the floor.)

After about 10 seconds, Trudeau gets out of his chair, strides purposefully down the aisle, puts himself between Mulcair and Christopherson and grabs Brown by the arm.

He is said to have suggested the New Democrats "get the f---" out of his way.

As he's leading Brown away, Trudeau appears to elbow Brosseau, who is standing behind him.

As Trudeau returns to his seat, Mulcair can be seen laughing. But the NDP leader then seems to consult with Brosseau, who appears upset. When Trudeau returns to the NDP corner to try to speak to with Brosseau, Mulcair shouts at him (apparently something about the prime minister being "pathetic").

Venezuela’s President Threatens To Throw Factory Workers In Jail Unless They Work Harder To End The Beer Shortage

There’s nothing worse than being right on the cusp of having an A+ buzz and realizing you’re out of beer. For one, you can’t drive and get more because, surprise, you’re drunk. Also, then you have no choice but to sober up and slowly feel the hangover creep over the horizon of your brain, headache in tow. It’s horrible.

This is the situation I’m assuming has driven Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro to threaten beer factory owners and workers with imprisonment if they do not work to end the beer shortage the country is currently suffering.

>President Nicolas Maduro threatened Saturday to take over idle factories and jail their owners following a decree granting him expanded powers to act in the face of a deep economic crisis. Maduro’s remarks came as Venezuela’s opposition warned the embattled leader that if he tries to block an attempt to hold a recall referendum, society could “explode.”

>Last month the country’s largest food and beverage distributor, Empresas Polar, shut down its last operating beer plant. It says it has been unable to access hard currency to buy raw materials.

“If you obstruct the democratic way, we do not know what could happen in this country,” opposition leader Henrique Capriles said at one rally. “Venezuela is a bomb that could explode at any moment.”

>Across town, Maduro ally Jorge Rodriguez vowed there would be no recall referendum.

“They got signatures from dead people, minors and undocumented foreigners,” Rodriguez said.

>Opposition leaders deny any fraud in the signature drive.

I guess it’s true what they say about beer making the world go round? Who are the ‘they’ I’m referring to? You know…them. Regardless, I fully understand where Maduro is coming from. No beer at all? That’s definitely one of the circles of Hell. I would do anything to get my beer back. Even illegally jail a couple hundred people. I also respect the hustle from the opposing side. Presenting a petition filled with names of people who are dead or legally don’t exist? I know it’s only Monday but I think we can all comfortably call that one the powermove of the week. “Hey dad, that petition to get the beer factory back is here.” “Oh good, here’s a list of every dead person on the family plot. Write all those names down and then sign your own.” I mean, face it, Americans love beer, Venezuelans love beer, dead people love beer. Everyone loves beer because beer loves everyone back.

Hacker is selling 117 million LinkedIn emails and passwords online

A hacker is trying to sell the details of 117 million LinkedIn users online – including email addresses and passwords – according to Motherboard.
The details would be enough to break into people’s accounts – and steal information which could be used for identity theft.
The hacker – using the handle Peace – told Motherboard that the data came from the well-publicised LinkedIn breach of 2012, but that far more users were affected than previously thought.
At the time, details for 6.5 million users were posted online – but now, ‘Peace’ is trying to sell 117 million further accounts for five Bitcoins (£1579), and boasts that 90% of the passwords have been cracked.
‘Peace’ is attempting to sell the data on a darkweb market The Real Deal, Motherboard claims.
If you fear you might be affected, it’s best to change your password – not only for LinkedIn, but for any other sites you might use the same password/email combination for.

Baker and butcher team up to make luxury donuts with bone marrow

People can now satisfy their sweet tooth with a unique donut.

A baker and a butcher of New York, got together to create a chocolate flavored donut that is filled with bone marrow.

The donuts are made in collaboration between The Doughnut Project, which is located at 10 Morton Street in Manhattan, and a nearby butcher shop called Hudson & Charles.

The donuts are sold for about $5.00 each. The donuts are covered in a clementine glaze and orange-infused chocolate flakes.

While the donut appears ordinary from the outside, the filling is quite the opposite. The donut is filled with a rich chocolate cream cake that is made with roasted bone marrow.

Although it may seem like an unusual ingredient to use, the bone marrow gives the filling an ultra-smooth texture.

Melbourne University advertises female-only jobs in bid to remedy gender imbalance in maths

The University of Melbourne has taken the extraordinary step of opening up jobs to female applicants only in an attempt to a drive change in the male-dominated area of mathematic academia.

Only about a quarter of all mathematics academics in Australia are female, and the university is now advertising three positions in its School of Mathematics and Statistics for female applicants only.
It is believed to be the first time it has limited applications to women only for permanent academic positions.

The jobs, in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics, may range in level from lecturer, to senior lecturer, to associate professor, depending on the candidate's experience.

The head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Professor Aleks Owczarek, said the decision had been taken to promote change.
"We clearly have an issue with attracting female applicants appropriately to our workforce," Professor Owczarek said.

"So this is an agenda to attempt to address that."

Microsoft Auto-Scheduling Windows 10 Updates

Windows 10 has been with us for a little over eight months now, which means there are only about four months remaining to get a free upgrade from an older Windows operating system. As the clock counts down, Microsoft has begun to auto-schedule PCs to upgrade to Windows 10 with or without consent from end users.

When Microsoft created Windows 10, it tied in numerous monitoring and data collection tools. The operating system is capable of gathering your search history, web usage, Windows Store usage, details of what applications you use, voice recordings, emails, geographic information and just about anything else that is on your PC. This information is gathered in part for improving Windows-based services, but it is also used for market research and advertising purposes.

Because each user on Windows 10 increases the amount of advertising information available to Microsoft, which in turn enables Microsoft to earn more revenue from selling this data, it is not surprising that Microsoft wants everyone to use its new OS. This lead to Microsoft offering Windows 10 as a free upgrade to both Windows 7 and Windows 8, as users of either OS were unlikely to want to pay for a new OS on an already relatively new PC.

Still, there were numerous users that opted to stick with their older Windows OSes, but they were still subject to annoying pop-ups trying to get you to move to Windows 10. Even after you close the pop-up, it returns after a few short hours, relentlessly probing you to upgrade.

Now, as we near the end of the free upgrade period, Microsoft’s malware-like upgrade system is becoming even more intrusive by autoscheduling upgrades to Windows 10. I noticed that the Windows 10 upgrade reminder pop-up on a Windows 7 PC was no longer asking me to upgrade; instead, it’s now informing me that it has already scheduled an update for May 17.

Americans cutting back on online activity over security and privacy fears

Nearly half of all Americans have not carried out a normal online task because of security and privacy fears, according to a new survey by the US government.

Forty-five per cent of the 41,000 households contacted said they had decided not to do online banking, or buy goods online, or post on social networks because they were worried about what might happen. Just under a third of them said they had stop several of those activities over the same fears.

The survey by the Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) makes for sober reading. It also makes a direct connection between people scaling back their online activities and the impact of a wave of recent security breaches of personal data.

An extraordinary 19 per cent of households - which extrapolates to nearly 24 million households across the US - have been personally affected by an online security breach in the past year.

That's perhaps not surprising given the big-name consumer companies impacted, including, to name just a few: Target, Home Depot, Verizon, Wendy's and Kiddicare - the last two reported just this week.

Those that have been the victim of a data breach are significantly more likely to scale back their online activities, the survey found: on average nine per cent.
It gets worse

The data also reveals a sad truth: the more you do online, the more likely you are to have your information compromised.

Of households that reported only having one online device like a computer or laptop, "just" six per cent of them said they had been victim of a data breach. That percentage goes up almost linearly to an appalling 31 per cent of households with five or more online devices.

In that respect, the decision by more and more American to opt out of online tasks is a logical one. But it is also one that has significant economic impact given the extent to which companies are moving their goods and services online.

"Every day, billions of people around the world use the Internet to share ideas, conduct financial transactions, and keep in touch with family, friends, and colleagues," an NTIA policy analyst Rafi Goldberg wrote in a related blog post.

"Users send and store personal medical data, business communications, and even intimate conversations over this global network. But for the Internet to grow and thrive, users must continue to trust that their personal information will be secure and their privacy protected."

Of people's fears, identity theft sits at the top with 63 per cent of people citing it as a real concern. Second comes credit card and banking fraud with 45 per cent. Then data collection by online services, loss of control over personal data, data collection by the government, and threats to personal safety with 23, 22, 18 and 13 per cent respectively.

What does this mean? The NTIA isn't sure beyond the fact that something clearly needs to be done. It points out that its analysis has "only scratched the surface" but even that initial review has made it "clear that policymakers need to develop a better understanding of mistrust in the privacy and security of the Internet and the resulting chilling effects."

It warns, not without some justification, that unless something is done to increase trust it "may reduce economic activity and hamper the free exchange of ideas online."

There are some policy plans afoot: the Obama Administration has put out draft privacy legislation, and the NTIA is running a number of processes with a range of stakeholders on online privacy and cybersecurity, including its current one on the internet of things.

The release of this data however demonstrates that there is a very real impact of security and privacy breaches. And it blows apart the idea that a move to online activities is somehow inevitable by showing that people do in fact scale back when impacted. That reality may serve as a catalyst for businesses to get serious about fixing problems and invest in make the online experience a safe, more secure one.

"Patrick Stewart Takes Down Donald Trump In Epic Tweet"

Posters Note: Yet no one noticed or gave a shit for several days.

Patrick Stewart summed up his thoughts about Donald Trump in just one tweet.

The English actor said he spotted a homeless man in New Orleans holding a sign asking for $1 in exchange for not voting for the presumptive Republican nominee in November.

So the “Star Trek“ and “X-Men“ star apparently stumped up $5, perhaps with the hope that quintupling his donation would somehow contribute more to The Donald’s downfall.

Stewart tweeted a photograph on Wednesday night. It’s now going viral.

“Made me forget the humidity for a moment. Worth 5 bucks,” he posted.

Stewart spotted the man about a week after he also aired his feelings about Trump to Vice.
“Well, of course, we had no idea that Dreadful Trump would be up to these antics that he is up to now,” he told the website. “And I call them ‘antics’ because how could they possibly be taken seriously.”

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.

Cops suspect man arrested in woods with bunch of guns might be white supremacist

Police in Lacey, New Jersey, believe a man they arrested wearing combat gear and hiding in the woods with a cache of firearms may be a white supremacist.

Bruce J. Post III of Trenton (mugshot above) was found with another man by Sgt. Paul Sullivan, Jr., and senior officer Michael Eden about 100 yards away from an abandoned 2007 Hyundai Tucson that was pulled the side off the road in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area. The officers were acting as part of a multi-agency task force combing through the woods because of an increase in “trespassing by persons in off-road vehicles, fire hazards, and criminal activity” in the area.

After searching the scene, “the officers… discovered an AK-47, a Walther P38 9 mm handgun, eight 30-round high-capacity magazines and one 100-round drum magazine, and various forms of ammunition at the scene within the woods,” according to Lacey Police Chief David A. Paprota. The officers also found several tarps and shovels.

“One subject, identified as Bruce J. Post 3rd, was wearing combat gear and gave indications of possible white-supremacist involvement,” Paprota added.

Gee, I wonder what gave the police that impression?

Post was arrested and charged with “illegal possession of a weapon by a felon, illegal possession of a handgun, illegal possession of an assault weapon and two counts of illegal possession of prohibited magazines.” Charges against the second man, who has not been identified.

Post was previously tied to the 1995 murder of Andrew Whited, who was stabbed 29 times by his younger brother Joe, currently in prison for the crime. The brothers, and the murder, was profiled in an Investigation Discovery documentary “Evil Kin: Brothers in Arms.” The documentary reported Bruce was known to dress in a Nazi uniform and “goose-step around the neighborhood.”

“He definitely had some neo-Nazi leanings and wasn’t afraid to share them,” one interviewee recalled.

Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau owes parents everywhere an explanation

Looking after small kids is no easy feat. I know that all too well. And the moms in society - and let's be honest here, it's still usually the women who stay home - do a lot more work 9-5 than those of us who just sit at a desk all day. It's not all soap operas and bon-bons, that's for sure.

Screaming kids. Barfing kids. Diapers. Endless laundry. Dirty dishes. Heck, broken dishes. Cheerios spilled everywhere, if you're lucky. Soup spilled everywhere and in your hair on a bad day. Diapers again.
And do you get to rest while they're napping? Hell no. You've got an hour to clean up to prepare for the next round.

But I'm going to bet that this is not the life Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, the prime minister's wife, has to manage. Yet she still had the nerve to tell French newspaper Le Soleil that life's tough. "I have three children at home and a husband who is prime minister. I need help. I need a team to help me serve people."

She's feeling overwhelmed. There are so many requests on her plate and she's having trouble. And the PMO confirms they're working at getting her an extra staff member. It's not yet close to the extravagance of Evita or Imelda Marcos, but you've still got to wonder what was going through her head when she said these entitled words.

It's no doubt a challenge with three kids - ages two, seven and eight - at Rideau Cottage, where the Trudeaus are living until 24 Sussex Dr. is fixed up. It doesn't matter who you are or how much your spouse earns ($330,000 in this case, with free rent).

But let's not kid ourselves here. It's sure easier when you've got money and a big house. And also when you've got help. Gregoire-Trudeau has two nannies, a personal assistant, and the bigger kids are school-aged and old enough to help with the toddler when they're home.
NDP MP Niki Ashton summed up the situation well, telling media: "hearing statements like that certainly doesn't speak to the reality that Canadian women face and the kind of struggles that, you know, that they're undertaking day in, day out."

Exactly. Single moms. Minimum-wage earners.

Gregoire-Trudeau no doubt does receive more requests to help charities and initiatives than she can handle. And I'm sure she genuinely wants to use her celebrity to help others as much as she can.

Phantom Jobs: Jobs that are advertised, but do not actually exis

> Yikes! Splat! Plop! Oy vey!

> Job growth fell hard in April as the government’s employment numbers confirmed the disappointing reality already self-evident on nearly every Main Street across the US.

> The economy was a loser this spring, and the statistical proof of this is catching up with reality.

> The Labor Department on Friday announced that only 160,000 jobs were created last month. Put another way, most economists think that is barely enough to absorb even the people looking to enter the job market for the first time, much less give work to the 7.9 million Americans looking for a job.

> April’s results were lower than the 208,000 jobs created in March, which was lower than the 233,000 jobs created in February.

> You get the trend, here?

> But as dispiriting as the 160,000 total is, there’s even, perhaps, a bigger problem — one that led me to believe this week that April jobs growth would exceed Wall Street’s forecast of 200,000.

> That bigger problem is this: included in the 160,000 figure are 233,000 phantom jobs that Labor added to the mix.

> The government each month regularly adds or subtracts phantom jobs, those it believes were created or destroyed — but can’t prove.

> But 233,000 phantom jobs? In April? With the economy slowing as much as it has, as evidenced by the last two Gross Domestic Product reports?

> What are they smoking at Labor?

> And those phantom jobs are added before the seasonal adjustments.

> Labor has never been able to tell me what effect its phantom jobs have on the headline seasonally adjusted number it publishes.

> But even if only 40,000 of those 233,000 phantom jobs impact the headline number after seasonal adjustments, it means that April’s job growth was beyond miserable.

> The April job figure changes a whole lot.

Can emojis help eliminate gender inequity? Google wants to try

Google has decided to play the "woman card" with a proposal for new emojis aimed at "reducing gender inequality."
But can cute pictures in text messages really be expected to boost women's wages or bring an end to mansplaining?

Earlier this week, Google suggested a new set of emojis representing professional women to the Unicode Consortium, the body that oversees international standards for computer language including emojis — those tiny images you can add in messages sent via text and messaging apps, meant to convey ideas or emotions.

Mark Zuckerberg is a hypocrite - Facebook has destroyed the open web

Mark Zuckerberg appeared presidential last month. In a speech he gave at an annual Facebook event, he said travelling around the world has worried him: "I am starting to see people and nations turning inward — against this idea of a connected world and a global community."

He showed dismay for "fearful voices calling for building walls and distancing people they label as 'others.'" Then, like a powerful world leader, he called on everyone: "Instead of building walls, we can help people build bridges. And instead of dividing people, we can help bring people together."

That is all quite ironic to me, and I'll tell you why. In 2014, I was pardoned and released from a prison in Tehran where I spent six years over my web activism. Before I was imprisoned in 2008, all the hype and rage on the internet was found on blogs.

Blogs were the best thing that had ever happened on the internet. They democratised writing and publishing – at least in many parts of the world. They gave a voice to many silenced groups and minorities. They connected friends, families, communities, and nations around the world. They encouraged discussions and debates.

All that was made possible because of a brilliant and powerful, but simple and modest innovation: hyperlinks. Those underlined, blue bits of text that made your cursor look like a hand with a outstretched pointed finger, and took you to outside sources and material on the web. The very fact that in 2016, one needs to explain to a new generation what hyperlinks (or simply links) were is already sad enough. But acknowledging that links are now practically dead is heart-breaking to anyone who remembers those times.

The World Wide Web was founded on the links, and without links, there won't be a web. Without links the experience of being on the internet will become one of a centralised, linear, passive, inward-looking and homogeneous kind. This is happening already, and despite Zuckerberg's sermon, it is largely Facebook and Instagram who are to be blame for the demise of links, and thereby the death of the open web and all its potentials for a more peaceful world.

Mark Zuckerberg killed links (and the web) because he has created a space that is more like the future of television rather than the internet. Unlike what he preaches, Facebook has divided us into small personal bubbles of comfort. We don't need to do anything, but to swipe with our thumbs (soon even that wouldn't be necessary with eyeball detection systems).

Hidden Microphones Exposed As Part of Government Surveillance Program In The Bay Area

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Hidden microphones that are part of a clandestine government surveillance program that has been operating around the Bay Area has been exposed.
Imagine standing at a bus stop, talking to your friend and having your conversation recorded without you knowing. It happens all the time, and the FBI doesn’t even need a warrant to do it.

Federal agents are planting microphones to secretly record conversations.

Jeff Harp, a KPIX 5 security analyst and former FBI special agent said, “They put microphones under rocks, they put microphones in trees, they plant microphones in equipment. I mean, there’s microphones that are planted in places that people don’t think about, because that’s the intent!”

FBI agents hid microphones inside light fixtures and at a bus stop outside the Oakland Courthouse without a warrant to record conversations, between March 2010 and January 2011.

Federal authorities are trying to prove real estate investors in San Mateo and Alameda counties are guilty of bid rigging and fraud and used these recordings as evidence.

Harp said, “An agent can’t just go out and grab a recording device and plant it somewhere without authorization from a supervisor or special agent in charge.”

The lawyer for one of the accused real estate investors who will ask the judge to throw out the recordings, told KPIX 5 News that, “Speaking in a public place does not mean that the individual has no reasonable expectation of privacy…private communication in a public place qualifies as a protected ‘oral communication’… and therefore may not be intercepted without judicial authorization.”

Harp says that if you’re going to conduct criminal activity, do it in the privacy of your own home. He says that was the original intention of the Fourth Amendment, but it’s up to the judge to interpret it.

Head Transplant On Human Scheduled For 2017

Heavily criticised Neurosurgion, Sergio Canavero, has made claims to be able to carry out the first ever human head transplant by the end of 2017. Dr Canavero is Director of the Turin Advanced Neuromodulation Group, a think tank devoted to the advancement of brain stimulation. By the age of 27, he had planned out the central for the operation.

Although data for the research undertaken has not yet been published (the prominent reason for close scrutiny by his peers), Dr Canavero and his team have released images and video documenting the successful transplantation of a the heads of a monkey and mice.

The transplant on the unfortunate monkey was reportedly a success without any neurological complications, however, was put to sleep after just 20 hours for ethical reasons.

Valery Spiridonov, who suffers from Werdnig-Hoffmann disease, has agreed to be the first human patient to undergo the radical procedure.
Procedure Of The Head Transplant

The basics of head transplant procedure are outlined here. In order for the procedure to work, Dr Canavero will cool down the donor body to 12˚C to ensure the cells last longer than a few minutes without oxygen.

The tissue around the neck will then be cut, along with the major blood vessels that will linked to tiny tubes. The spinal cord on each patient will then be cleanly severed after the receiving patient is anaesthetized.

At this point, the receiving patients head is ready to be moved, and the two ends of the spinal cord are fused using a chemical called polyethylene glycol.

After the muscles and blood supply are successfully reconnected on the donor body, the patient will kept in a medical induced coma for a month to limit movement of the newly fused neck, while electrodes stimulate the spinal cord to strengthen its new connections.

Once the patient is woken, Canavero says the patient would immediately be able to move, feel their face and even speak with the same voice. Within a year, Canervo anticipates that after obvious physiotherapy, the patient will be able to walk within a year.

Chicago Students Now Required To Adopt Transgender Newspeak

Under a new set of guidelines rolled out last week by Chicago public schools, children will now be required to address transgender students and employees by their preferred name and pronouns — or face the consequences.

Transgender students and employees can choose their preferred bathroom, locker room, name and pronouns, and everyone else is required to affirm the individual’s new identity, according to the guidelines.

Trangender students and adults in the CPS system can require their peers to adopt gender neutral terminology, such as using the pronoun “ze” instead of the usual “he” or “she.”
“Preferred Gender Pronoun (PGP) is the pronoun or set of pronouns that an individual would like others to use when talking to or referring to that individual,” the guidelines state.

“Common examples include, ‘they,’ ‘their,’ ‘ze,’ ‘he’ and ‘she.'”
Students or employees who consciously use the “wrong” pronouns will be in violation of school policies on comprehensive non-discrimination, Title IX and sexual harassment, and student code of conduct.

According to the new guidelines:

> the intentional or persistent refusal by students or school staff to respect a student’s gender identity (for example, intentionally referring to the student by a name or pronoun that does not correspond to the student’s gender identity) is a violation of these Guidelines, the Student Code of Conduct, and Comprehensive Non-Discrimination, Title IX and Sexual Harassment Policy.

CPS warns that “violations will result in appropriate consequences for offending staff and students.”
Under the guidelines, schools cannot require transgender individuals to obtain a court order or gender change before forcing the new vocabulary upon students.

White House: Every Student Should Have Access To Bathroom Of Choice

The Obama administration is defending its decision to open up school bathrooms to students of the opposite sex, arguing that it was an effort to provide more “security” and “dignity” to students across the country.

“Every student should have access to facilities that everybody else has access to,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest explained to reporters today. “No one should be discriminated against because of who they are.”

The new rules issued by the Department of Education, Earnest explained, should be considered as “guidance” for school administrators.

He suggested that administrators, students, or parents who were upset with the ruling should not feel forced to use shared bathrooms in public schools.

“No student is forced to use shared facilities, and if there are alternate facilities available, that are made available by administrators, then every student should have access to those facilities as well.”

Earnest scolded critics who opposed he guidance from the administration, particularly Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, who called the letter “blackmail.”

“I think this does underscore the risk of electing a right-wing radio host to a statewide elected office,” Earnest replied, when asked to respond to Patrick’s defiance.

He also accused critics of wanting police officers to check people’s birth certificates before letting them use the bathroom.

“That doesn’t sound like small government to me,” he said. “It certainly sounds like a government intrusion to me.”

Earnest tried to signal confidence that schools across the country would “welcome this guidance and will implement it.”

He refused to say schools faced the loss of federal funding if they did not implement the new bathroom guidance from the federal government, but repeatedly referred to “an established process” for litigating opposition.

“I think there obviously is a question of civil rights here,” he said.

North Bay nurse who snooped into 5,800 patients’ records gets four month suspension

The first person ever charged under Ontario’s health privacy law committed professional misconduct by snooping into the personal health records of 5,800 patients over six years, the College of Nurses of Ontario has ruled.

North Bay nurse Melissa McLellan was charged under the 2004 Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) in relation to the massive privacy breach, but her case was dismissed in January 2015 due to delay by Crown prosecutors.

In early April, 51-year-old McLellan appeared before a disciplinary panel of her regulatory professional body. As a result of the misconduct finding, she has lost her licence as a nurse for four months and receives a formal reprimand.

McLellan could not immediately be reached for comment by the Star. She admitted to professional misconduct at the hearing.

According to the College of Nurses of Ontario’s agreed upon statement of facts, submitted during the hearing, McLellan was fired in May 2011 from the hospital she had worked at since November 1999.

The name of the hospital is censored in this document, but McLellan filed a grievance against North Bay (Regional) Health Centre for letting her go and that arbitrator’s ruling is publicly available.

She also appeared on Ontario’s Sunshine List for 2008-2010, making slightly over $100,000 a year as a registered nurse at North Bay General Hospital, which merged with North East Mental Health Centre in 2011 to become the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
In the agreed upon statement of facts, McLellan acknowledges “it was her practice between 2005 and 2011, to routinely access electronic client records for clients who were not under her care.”

Chunks of Earth's Mantle Are 'Peeling Off'

An odd phenomenon may explain why the Southeastern United States has experienced recent earthquakes, even though the region sits snugly in the middle of a tectonic plate and not at the edges, where all the ground-shaking action usually happens.

This seismicity — or relatively frequent earthquakes — may be the result of areas along the bottom of the North American tectonic plate peeling off, the researchers said. And this peeling motion is likely to continue, leading to more earthquakes in the future, like the 2011 magnitude-5.8 temblor that shook the nation's capital. [Image Gallery: This Millennium's Destructive Earthquakes]

To figure out the cause of these earthquakes, Berk Biryol, a seismologist at UNC Chapel Hill, and colleagues created 3D images of the uppermost part of Earth's mantle, which is just below the crust and comprises the bottom of a tectonic plate. These tectonic plates scoot around atop a layer of warm, viscous fluid called the asthenosphere.

The resulting X-ray images revealed that the plate's thickness in the southeast United States was uneven, with thick regions of dense, old rock combined with thinner areas composed of younger rocks that were also less dense.

Here's what the researchers think caused the wonkiness: Over time, as new material was added to the plate and parts of the plate were pulled apart, areas of higher density formed. Gravity would have pulled down the denser areas into the mantle, and at some point chunks would have broken off to sink into the gooey asthenosphere below, the researchers speculated.

At the same time, to fill the void left by the chunks peeling off from the bottom of the plate, the lighter material in the asthenosphere would have moved up to fill in the space. That buoyant material then would have cooled to become the thinner, younger section of the plate.

Where parts of the plate broke off or peeled, it became thinner and more prone to slip along fault lines, thus causing seismic activity. Biryol estimates that this activity has occurred for the past 65 million years or so.

"These events, usually, when they occur, they occur over long periods of time. The geological time scale is millions of years," Biryol said.

While the research looks only at what has occurred in the past, and not what seismic activity there may be in the future, Biryol said people living in the Southeast don't need earthquake preparedness kits just yet.

"I don't think things will be changing in the future, at least not in our lifetimes or our grandchildren's grandchildren's life," Biryol told Live Science. "Geological processes take place over long periods of time and nothing will change dramatically overnight."

ISPs Are Now Forcing Cord Cutters To Subscribe To TV If They Want To Avoid Usage Caps

We've noted time and time again how broadband usage caps on fixed-line networks are arbitrary, unnecessary, and harm innovation. They're also a useful weapon against streaming video competitors, and the natural evolution of TV competition. Caps can be used to either punish users who try and cut the cord with higher prices, but they also allow ISPs to exempt their own streaming services from said caps (something currently being done by both Verizon and Comcast), thereby giving these services a distinct and unfair advantage in the market.

But broadband ISPs are now coming up with a new way of attacking cord cutters: forcing them to subscribe to television if they want to avoid usage caps.

Back in January, AT&T announced that the company would be happy to remove usage caps on its wireless network, but only if you subscribe to DirecTV or U-verse TV service. Then last month, AT&T carried this idea over to its fixed-line broadband network, announcing that it would be imposing new usage caps on its broadband users starting May 23. While AT&T says it will generously allow users to pay $30 more per month to avoid usage caps entirely, it also announced that users who subscribe to its TV services will be able to avoid usage caps entirely.

Target CEO Defends Pro-Transgender Policy, Stocks Crash Down Another $2 Billion

The CEO of retail giant Target is zig-zaging between the many customers who are angered by his decision to open single-sex bathrooms to the other sex, the gender-identity progressives who pushed for the disastrous transgender policy, and the Wall Street stock-pickers who have chopped roughly $4.5 billion off the company’s value.

“We’re going to continue to embrace our belief in diversity and inclusion, just how important that is to our company,”CEO Brian Cornell said in a May 11 appearance on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” business show. “But we’re also going to make sure our focus on safety is unwavering,” he added.

To mollify the public angered by his removal of single-sex restrooms and changing rooms, the company will add family bathrooms to all of its stores, he said.

> We’re committed over the next few months, to make sure every one of our stores has that option, because we want to make sure that our guests be welcomed in our stores. But if there’s a question of safety, I can tell you and others, our focus on safety is unwavering, and we want to make sure we provide a welcoming environment for all our guests, one that’s safe, one that’s comfortable.

But Cornell did not offer to return single-sex changing rooms, which is likely the most unnerving element in the company’s new open-door, pro-transgender agenda.
The company can’t easily add family changing-rooms without using up scarce space in their retail stores — and can’t reestablish single-sex changing-rooms without angering many progressive professionals in the media and fashion industries. Those progressives professionals would likely claim the company is unfairly “gender policing” its customers, even though transgender advocates say only 1 in every 300 Americans are transgender. Other estimates say the ratio is only 1 transgender for every 2,400 Americans.

So Cornell tried to reassure and flatter progressives about the justice of his company’s brand-damaging, revenue-reducing April 19 decision. “We took a stance,” Cornell said, as he suggested that single-sex bathrooms are just like a racist refusal to use African-Americans in commercial advertising in the 1960s.

America's middle class is hollowing out in many cities

America's middle class is hollowing out.

In cities across the country from Seattle to Boston, the middle class is shrinking as more Americans either climb up into higher income brackets or slip further into lower income groups, according to Pew Research Center data released this week. In nine out of 10 cities, there are fewer middle-class families since 2000.

"These trends in the middle class are reflective of rising income inequality," said Rakesh Kochhar, associate director of research at the Pew Research Center. "This trend has been part and parcel of the national economy for the last 30 to 40 years."

From 2000 to 2014, the share of adults living in middle income households fell in 203 of 229 U.S. metropolitan areas, according to Pew's analysis of government data.

While it's known that rising income disparity is fueling the shrinking middle, the new analysis shows this national trend playing out in many cities — with the middle-class decline described as "often substantial," according to the report.

The drop in the middle-class share measured 6 percentage points or more in 53 metro areas, compared with a four-point drop nationally.

Drilling down further, the new data reveals the availability of a skilled local workforce and high quality jobs, whether tied to technology or the oil industry, can make or break the ability of families to accumulate wealth.

"Being skilled is useful," Kochhar said. "High tech will always rule up the income ladder. And global changes matter," he said.

Wendy's to roll out self-service kiosks nationwide

Following $15 minimum wage hike legislation in New York City and in California, fast food chain Wendy's has announced a plan to install self-service kiosks in every one of its 6,000 restaurant locations.

Although each franchise owner will have the option to use the new technology or not, Wendy's nevertheless plans to deliver the new kiosks across the U.S. by the end of 2016.
Company president Todd Penegor said that Wendy's is "wary about wage hikes," as Investor's Business Daily writes. The chain restaurant's shares posted a nine percent drop after poor second quarter sales.

In response to the cash loss and wage hikes, some locations have raised the prices of menu items. As IBD reports, "Wendy's Penegor said company-operated stores, only about 10 percent of the total, are seeing wage inflation of 5 percent to 6 percent, driven both by the minimum wage and some by the need to offer a competitive wage 'to access good labor.'"
In addition to the kiosks, Wendy's is also planning to begin implementing mobile ordering and payments also by the end of the year.

Hillary’s Latest Scandal: She And Bill Siphoned $100 Mil From Mideast Leaders

Scandal: A new investigation reveals that Bill and Hillary Clinton took in at least $100 million from Middle East leaders. Can such a financially and ethically compromised candidate truly function as our nation’s leader?

The investigation by the Daily Caller News Foundation has uncovered a disturbing pattern of the Clintons’ raising money for the Clinton Foundation from regimes that have checkered records on human rights and that aren’t always operating in the best interests of the U.S. By the way, the $100 million we mentioned above doesn’t appear to include another $30 million given to the Clintons by two Mideast-based foundations and four billionaire Saudis.

All told, it’s a lot of money.

“These regimes are buying access,” Patrick Poole, a national security analyst who regularly writes for PJ Media, told the DCNF. “You’ve got the Saudis. You’ve got the Kuwaitis, Oman, Qatar and the UAE (United Arab Emirates). There are massive conflicts of interest. It’s beyond comprehension.”

Well, maybe not, given that Clinton, during her four-year tenure as secretary of state, used a clearly illegal private email server which is now under investigation by the FBI. Her open e-mail system likely was hacked by Chinese, Russian and perhaps other spy agencies, say cyberespionage experts. Such negligence would seem to disqualify her from ever holding a sensitive foreign policy post in the government again.

Meanwhile, former U.S. Attorney Joseph E. diGenova told the Caller that he believes the FBI has launched a second, possibly more serious investigation into possible political corruption involving the Clinton Foundation. This is potentially explosive, given that the Clintons seem to have run their charity in a way that lines their own pockets.

The question is an open one: Did the oil-rich Mideast nations give lavishly to the Clinton Foundation in an effort to influence future U.S. policy? And what about Bill Clinton’s business partnership with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai’s authoritarian ruler, from 2003 to 2008? Clinton took away some $15 million in “guaranteed payments” from the deal, his tax records show.

A picture of extraordinary greed is emerging from both Clintons in the years after they hold the highest posts in the U.S. government.

In just the past three years, after her stint as the nation’s top diplomat, Hillary Clinton spoke to dozens of deep-pocket firms on Wall Street, typically charging $250,000 a pop to hear her wit and wisdom — despite her bitter condemnations of Wall Street during her campaign.

All told, she took in an estimated $22 million from these speeches — an extraordinary amount, given the growing consensus among foreign-policy thinkers that Clinton was one of the worst secretaries of state ever.

So why would Arab potentates and Wall Street magnates alike pony up so much money for the Clintons? Is it because they believe so strongly in the philanthropic mission of the Clinton Family Foundation? Or is it that they hoped to have influence on a future Hillary Clinton presidency, which would of course feature First Gentleman Bill Clinton?

Remember, a Hillary Clinton presidency once looked like a sure thing. Now, given the growing possibility that she could be charged for criminal negligence for putting secret material on a private server, or perhaps even be charged with corruption, Clinton has far more serious problems than just getting elected. Her biggest problem may be staying out of prison.

Senator Rand Paul to back bill blocking FBI hacking expansion

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul plans to become the first Republican co-sponsor of legislation to block a pending judicial rule change that would let U.S. judges issue search warrants for remote access to computers located in any jurisdiction, his office told Reuters on Thursday.

The bill is expected to be introduced next week. Backing from Paul, a former Republican candidate for president with libertarian leanings, lends bipartisan support to an effort to undo a little-noticed modification to a text governing procedural rules for the U.S. court system that civil liberties groups warn would drastically expand the FBI’s hacking authority.

So far, that cause has largely been championed solely by Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat and digital privacy advocate. He has vowed to work to stop the rule change on grounds it would allow the government to use one warrant to access and search thousands or millions of computers at once, potentially implicating those suspected of no wrongdoing.

Magistrate judges can normally only order searches within the jurisdiction of their court, which is typically limited to a few counties.

But last month the Supreme Court, in a private vote, approved the amendments to Rule 41 of the federal rules of criminal procedure, which would permit judges to issue warrants in cases when a suspect uses anonymizing technology to conceal the location of his or her computer or for an investigation into a network of hacked or infected computers, such as a botnot.

Congress has until December 1 to pass legislation that would reject, amend or postpone the changes to Rule 41. If lawmakers do nothing, which is customary in these circumstances, the changes automatically will take effect.

The U.S. Justice Department, which is pushing for the rule change, has described it as a procedural tweak needed to modernize the criminal code, and has said it would not permit searches that are not already legal.

Alphabet Inc’s Google has warned the change poses a “monumental” threat to the Constitution’s protections against unreasonable searches and seizures.

Last year Paul and Wyden worked together to force a temporary expiration of the USA Patriot Act, which led to passage of surveillance reforms that pared backed the National Security Agency’s controversial bulk collection of U.S. call records.

Other lawmakers are also examining Rule 41.

Republican Senator Mike Lee is looking at ways to address concerns, a spokesman said, and a small group of lawmakers in the House are weighing introduction of companion legislation, sources said.
