Bands with ≤ 1 Full-Length Album Edgy Faggot 01/15/2016 (Fri) 18:54:54 [Preview] No. 70
ITT: Post bands that produced either exactly one proper full-length album (some singles/EPs are fine, too) or just some singles/EPs. The more obscure, the better.

I don't consider discography compilations (demo collections, complete discographies, et cetera) to be albums, so they're fair to post as long as they haven't released any new album at the time of your posting.

I'll start with some quality NWOBHM.

The late '70s/early '80s was filled with bands who released one or two singles, perhaps an EP or exactly one full-length, and then disappeared. Usually, these bands resurface by releasing their remastered demos.

Here's Y Diawled, the world's first Cymraeg-language band

The band released a couple singles before calling it quits, but despite the off-key singing, the riffage is top-notch.

There was actually a brief making-of documentary which surfaced about them.

Fuck knows what they're saying (I don't speak their language), but nonetheless, it's interesting to see such an obscure band featured.

I've nowt to contribute at the moment, but this seems like a rad idea.

Why does there seem to be more of this kind of thing amongst metal bands?

There could be several reasons for that. Sometimes the band members just don't get along. Other times they're unable to keep a stable lineup. Then there are instances where the band members realize that producing music isn't a profitable enterprise, so they all get real jobs.

When I first looked at that cover, I thought it was a black metal album. I still like it, though. It reminds me of Judas Priest.

I am going to cheat in my own thread and post a band with TWO releases (if you count the live album separately, which contains completely original songs), because goddamn, these guys rule.

Lester Maddox:

From my other thread on cripple /metal/:

Flames of Hell

True Icelandic Black Metal from 1984

Frequently considered the Unholy Grail of Black Metal, bonafide copies of "Fire and Steel" fetch for allegedly as high as $1000. Only five were produced.

The album was recorded at a studio in a YMCA building. When they were recording the satanic vocals, the head master of this YMCA facility came to check out what was going on in the studio and heard the satanic music being recorded there. Allegedly, they were allowed to finish the recordings, but the studio banned them from the building and had to be relocated after that.

More information about this cult classic here:

It's funny how stuff gets fetishized like this. Thank Christ Satan for the digital age where any chucklefuck can share it.

>posting additional links and information, not just dropping the albums

Credit to team, OP.

Considering the album was recorded in 1984 in a YMCA, "edgy" describes them perfectly, although not disparagingly. Keep in mind Christianity still had some clout in the western world, especially since it was seen as what made the West free from the Red Menace.

At any rate, "Fire and Steel" is, by no means, a great album, but the gritty production and passion from their performance can be felt. I especially like "EEEEVIIIIIIIIIILLLLLL!"

If you can imagine Celtic Frost getting stuck in a k-hole after taking drugs following speed-reading piles of feminist literature, you'd be getting much closer to describing Life Cycle.

Although I despise feminism, I can at the very least appreciate the musical chops.

Incredible stuff from the NWOBHM. Sadly, these games brought the heaviness a little too late, but they left quite the mark.

Grand find, anon. Makes me feel bad that I haven't checked out everything in here yet. Would you mind posting genres with everything?

Edgy Faggot 01/18/2016 (Mon) 14:08:52 [Preview] No. 95 del
With the exception of Flames of Hell and Lester Maddox, everything posted is from the NWOBHM.

Definitely check out Lester, though. It's definitely not your typical Metal band.

Oh, there's also Life Cycle:

They're "Crust Punk," although the sound is much more reminiscent of a slower, doomier "Morbid Tales" by Celtic Frost.

I wasn't expecting that.

I wasn't expecting that at all.

How are you finding such a large amount of great stuff, anon? Have you accumulated it over the years? Have you specifically been seeking out bands that fit the criteria and are just sharing the best of it with us?

Edgy Faggot 01/21/2016 (Thu) 16:24:36 [Preview] No. 122 del
My taste for vintage heaviness knows no bounds. In the past, I always made a habit of surgically combing RYM for vintage releases, and the search tool made the job much easier.

I used to hang out on metal-archives before the SJW politics rendered the forum culture too toxic, and in that time, I made acquaintances with several people habitually listened to old school Heavy Metal.

Lester Maddox rules. One of the greatest bands nobody has ever heard of.

Edgy Faggot 01/21/2016 (Thu) 16:40:00 [Preview] No. 123 del
I remember the Metal Archives forums. The mods on there were some of the worst hotpockets I had ever encountered. I'd even go so far as to say that they're worse than the mods on halfchan.

Edgy Faggot 01/21/2016 (Thu) 16:45:35 [Preview] No. 125 del
The mods are fucking cunts, literally and figuratively.

It's hard to say who's the absolute worst, but OneRodeToAsaBay and Morrigan are both distinctly terrible. PhantomOTO was also horrible, but at least he had the good sense to fuck off.

Edgy Faggot 01/21/2016 (Thu) 16:48:12 [Preview] No. 126 del
I can't comment on halfchan's mods, but M-A's are almost Something Awful-tier bad.

Sacred Blade. Absolutely stunning Progressive Heavy Metal:

Edgy Faggot 01/21/2016 (Thu) 17:50:07 [Preview] No. 128 del
That's some pretty trippy cover art. The music is pretty cool too.

Edgy Faggot 01/21/2016 (Thu) 17:59:05 [Preview] No. 129 del
Yeah, the forum is fucking shit now. Morrigan is the worst cunt of them all, and she has such an entry-level, shit taste, yet she strolls around like a fucking queen.

Edgy Faggot 01/21/2016 (Thu) 18:20:38 [Preview] No. 130 del
Unfortunately, Metal Archives has a de facto monopoly when it comes to metal information. Everyone goes there simply because that site was the first to catalog information about metal bands, and no one wants to go through the effort of creating a competitor. Come to think of it, it's the same reason why so many people still go to halfchan despite there being so many better alternatives out there.

Speaking of Morrigan, she's a total SJW. Pics related.

Perhaps the weirdest band from the NWOBHM I'll ever post ITT.

If you can imagine what would happen if The Beatles and Saxon collaborated, you can imagine how Ethel the Frog sounds like. Since the album opens with a cover of "Eleanor Rigby", I'll let the music speak for itself:

Weapon, an incredible band from the NWOBHM which never released a proper full length until two years ago. Can't say I liked their full length which was released well after their prime, but their singles kick major ass:

JJ's Powerhouse

Don't bother with their crappy full-length released well past their prime in 2004.

I remember a British Nintendo magazine making a reference to this during a Mario Kart 64 review. I always just figured it was really obscure slang...

Much groovier than expected. Would've given it a spin because the cover art looks like a HOMM3 portrait.

Edgy Faggot 01/25/2016 (Mon) 18:29:42 [Preview] No. 163 del
They're probably referring to the '90s Alt Rock band of the same name:

Sororicide: True Icelandic Death Metal

The band has released tons of stuff on splits and EPs, but since they've only released one proper full-length, it fits the thread.

I've also exhausted most of the quality NWOBHM, so I think this crew will appreciate it if I branch out into other genres.

Sorrow: New York Death/Doom legends.

Formed out of the ashes of Apparition, Sorrow played an erratic style of Death/Doom Metal that gripped the listener with its crushingly slow pace reminiscent of Winter, Cianide or Mythic. They sounded like Slayer played at Winter's speed, but that in no way detracted from their style. Andy Marchione sounds like a man dying of cancer bound to a life-support machine, exerting the fleeting bit of his strength to curse at the world; all of this added to the apocalyptic atmosphere the band achieved.

The only thing going against the album is the lyrics, which read like an angsty teen with a 9/11 conspiracy blog, but even so, it doesn't take too much away from the music.

Has to be heard to be believed:

I love that album. I also hear that physical copies of it can fetch ridiculously high prices at auction.

I always hate that gap: the bit where you're really getting into an intro, and then the song proper comes along, and you're still digging it, but you know the vocals are going to make or break it. It fucking kills me every time.

Wasn't disappointed with this one, though.

And don't apologize for letting off on NWOBHM. I can't speak for everyone here, but I've got enough to keep me busy for at least half a year with the thread so far.

I listened to it. It's really weird, like Morbid Angel on LSD.

Edgy Faggot 02/26/2016 (Fri) 08:23:47 [Preview] No. 295 del
It only maintained that for the intro, I felt. An intro which sounded more like a recording of someone opening the ark of the covenant than the start of an EP.

When I was younger I liked listening to the mid-90s meloblack/death style of bands such as Unanimated, Dissection and Sacramentum.
Here are some bands I remember liking from that style which only have 1 album to their name:

The Blitz from Maidstone Kent.

They sadly released one single before breaking up in the early '80s.

Phil Long has since gone on to The Fabulous Fezheads.
