Honesty. Pretending that the fiction part of science fiction is intranatural in any way is nothing but dishonesty. The cause is that anime doesn't fear making dishonest people face their flaws. If you read any scifi and just think "this makes sense", it's because it panders directly to your biases but carefully scrubs off everything else. In reality none of it makes sense. If it made sense it wouldn't need to be written, it would just be the reality.
In light of this, it's not necessary to differentiate whether the point of suspension of disbelief is subtle or obvious, on the contrary sometimes it's a literary device to specifically draw attention to the way you're fooling yourself, if you're not supposed to be fooling yourself without intent like a child. Japan has a stronger tradition of considering fiction as a thing-in-itself (per Heidegger) and a part of this existing reality, not an escape from it to be used as a counterbalance while you poison the balance of the life you have outside of it.
