Don't forget:
>Lainchan was wiped by "accident"
>8chan suffered from the datamining scheme
>4chan is owned by a datamining scammer who implemented malicious advertisments for profit
>Almost every other imageboard is overrun by /pol/

Yep, the state of imageboards.

Are they patching/updating? There's been a slew of ugly security flaws of late.

The only recent security updates trashing systems were for Micro$oft, something even more scary to contemplate—an image-board running on an M$ server. More likely, they decided since they are going to have to reboot for OS updates anyway it's time to tinker with other stuff and/or patch the image-board app.

Maybe they took a page outta Endchan's payment for services guide?

Times like these lean one more to suspecting admin hubris than outside malice.

Was Uboachan still good? Yumenikki sort of passed away destroying the reason for having that chan.

I saw a comment on there someone saying the creator is working on a new project so probably just to raise awareness for that. Also, to hear about it in the west, maybe not so much anymore, but you pretty much had to frequent a forum where obscure titles were discussed. Now it can garner some popularity off of potentially more than just word of mouth.
Honestly, might head over to /r/gaming and see if there's any :
>so Steam just dropped this little le gem
>thought I was dreaming when I saw this on Steam
etc.

someone mentioned it's likely not kikiyama but someone who got his permission. i can't seem to find the original quote though
do you think this has to do with uboachan shutting down? maybe to prevent a massive influx of new people?

who told you lainchan getting wiped was an accident? it was done by the old site owner and it was done on purpose cause he didnt like how the new dude was running the site.

>dead chans get taken down
EVERYONE PANIC chans die all the time when their empty theres no good reason to keep them up. ive seen chans get less than a 1000 posts total despite being up mutiple years, eventually they give up tho its pointless to maintain a site that no one uses. here have some small chans that probably wont last very long
http://msanon.com/
https://lizchan.org
http://fyib.uselessirc.net/index.html
http://www.magicchan.org/all/
could go on. all 3 of those sites didnt have an active user base that closed down these will probably all die the same death.

It's sad because a lot of these chans that recently came down, I tried really hard to actively contribute to daily. It sucks that you can only do so much to try to save a nice comfy little chan, and despite your best efforts things will come and go at their own will.

To be fair though any attempt at marketing typically is answered by cries of shill, spam, attention whore etc. IIRC the /pol/ board here when endchan first started up got a lot of shit for advertising when 8ch was in a shambles and their own /pol/ clearly had some moderation issues but mostly a complete change in milieu.

ads can be really annoying when boards are already slow. so when people advertise, it takes up ~50% of the board's posts. just buy ad-space ffs

They do. The problem being, marketing chans to other chans is a waste of time. The days when you could announce the launch a new site with a spam raid across 4chan are long gone. Users who remain are hold outs from simpler times. At best, some people will stop by, notice nothing is going on, and skip back to whence they came, never to return.

Potentially useful newer users are already extensively active in Discord, websites that directly focus on their interests (DeviantArt, many boorus), wikis, and the more traditional forums. Like old school TV, chans aren't places for the need-to-be-seen advertisers any more.

Launching a chan these days requires:

a) A preexisting user base willing to give it a go. That, more or less, made 4chan's start.
b) Or, a topic or movement not already covered by another website, or chan board. Redundancy is deadly.
c) Failing the above, you need to stomp on the coattails of an existing group being kicked from somewhere else, and actively guide them to your site. Good luck timing such migrations. You have to be in there right from the start, and move faster than everyone else.

What doesn't work:

a) FEATURE RICH! THE NEXT BESTEST THING EVAH TO SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY IN CHAN TECHNOLOGY! There are dozens of different image-board systems with features you've never even heard of. Nobody cares, unless you bloat up and sink so far down the hole you're not running a chan anymore. You really want to compete with Discord?
b) TOTAL PRIVACY AND ANONYMITY FOREVER AND EVERYTHING! The people who insist on doing things this way moved elsewhere long ago. Sites offering you such while connected through the traditional internet are lying, even if only to themselves.
c) Inability to expand with even a modest increase in user base. About those days of winging it while tooling up to meet user demand after the fact? Long gone. Ain't nobody got time for that.
d) Security cluelessness. Just because two thirds of the traffic hitting your brandy dandy new site consists of failed attacks speaks nothing about your technical ability. Those are just bots looking for two year old vulnerabilities. If you ever gain a modicum of success, that is when the real deal will pay you a visit. The nice ones will be content to trash your site in a obvious way. The not so nice ones will ensure you have plenty of free time to spend chatting with law enforcement.

You have no idea what you are in for, unless you plan on keeping watch over a gaping dead time and money chomping maw while advertising to bigger, but still in the same, boats.

good post
the only thing appealing about chans is the anonymity, i guess. i've seen a few small community chans just ditch the site completely and move to discord.
maybe we're the backwards ones living in the past? i don't know. but I do think chans coming and going is ultimately a good thing. ideals change and corruption creeps overtime, both are inevitable.
if, for example, hikkichan never died, it would quickly become a very unhealthy echo-chamber that would just continue to validate a poor lifestyle choice. unfortunately some of the worst offenders of perpetuating shitty ideas (ex. 4ch, 8ch, wizch) just refuse to die, so maybe my point is moot.

chans will be fine tons of these sites have come and gone it was always like that. discords a trend, not a long term social phenomena. youve posted this before here, you just added to it this time.
>>14625
hikkichan wasnt doing anything fast that site had been up quite awhile and it wasnt ever quick. think the total site post count was around 20k ish.
iternet communities come and go. 8chans probably not gonna be the longest lasted one, it keeps shrinking steadily. 4chans too mainstream to actually die, and a site like wizch has its echo chamber.
honestly i try and keep an eye on new internet communities because i specifically thing is that the vast majority of internet communities decay and just arent that good after their early period.
there is no escaping that shit even happens to forums and things like that.

I miss Geocities sometimes. There used to be lots more creativity before wordpress took over the internet and we sacrificed design for functionality.

isn't it possible to combine user-created webpages with a social forum? i mean fucking neopets did it back when I was in kindergarten.
that would be fucking rad to just endlessly adventure through many different anons' shitty web 1.0 projects. the best part of shrekchan during it's peak was all the hidden geocities-esque sites that anons would continue to uncover more and more of. maybe it's nostalgia but you can definitely show more creativity and personality with a full webpage rather than a text reply with maybe an OC image attached if you're lucky.

Reason I ask this is because big tech companies don't like image boards, they want us dependent on their corporate services (so they can spy on us, control narratives and censor unwanted content).

Just as the name implies. ':3 An imageboard dedicated to Summer Glau. It only got a few posts every once in a while, but it was active as of a few weeks ago and now its address leads to a cloudflare error page.

why are you dense enough to say the same thing over and over again? this is at least the third time you talked about a purge and started to panic cause tiny little websites no one fucking used died.
>big chans like endchan
lol this place dosent generate very much traffic theres a lot of chans bigger than this. not sure endchan would even crack the top 10 in terms of size, it probably wouldnt.
your so used to panic and rhetoric that common sense cant get through to you.
you can pretend the loss of little websites is massively important but its really fucking not you hysterical fool.
